Hi guys!
We learned our lesson last year so we had a person stationed near the "tarahan" (counting tables?) just to be sure that the boys' laps are being counted.
We did experience some laps that didn't count because they failed to dismount. Thumbie reminded us of this so it's part of the race.
Till next time!
Cheers!

i think UCI or in north america they use electronic transceivers attached to whatever part of the bike (usually, the leading edge of the fork)... so when it (bike/biker) crosses the 'gate', a sensor will automatically record its passing...

invest? me? tee hee hee...pero that's a good idea but i still think it (the system) can be duped. remember its electronic, the passport system is nice, or ticket system. but in the aid of legislation, electronic is too expensive if you're using this just 1x a year or 2x...but that's just me. Besides, electronic you expose them to rough riding, trail blasting, river crossing it might make your laps multiply by 5 everytime you cross the sensor. Hmmmm...you got me thinking there

jaymz, yeah, i saw that sa 24hour solo vid. transponders strapped to the riders legs. pero it's expensive! i think it's around a $100 per personal transponder (which is used for r/c's). the most cost effective way is the passport you mentioned.
aside from thumbie, who else organizes 24 hour races? or is it the only 24 hour race in the philippines?

There you go, as Jovan mentioned BMB got burned the last time so this time they took the effort to post someone at the counting table. Omel was there most every time I would line up.
Transponders are the best I would think the one's similar used in TdF. But it will be too expensive. So back to tags and passport.

i had been an spectator to this DOT 24hrs and more often than not spectators give a different point of view than that of the participants or organizers. my take:
1. i believe that passport system seems to be a better way of recording laps made by riders (i can only imagine how hard it is to lose "even" one hard-earned lap). with the case of this so-called passport system where every lap made by the rider is stamped everytime he/she makes a pass at the transition area, at least the laps he make are visibly recorded on his passport (or whatever you may want to call it).
2. another matter that should be considered is a shuttle service for participants (stragetically located at certain points, a flatbed truck perhaps just like what they use during races in visayas, i saw in one posting somewhere here) who are not monied enough to have his own transport to go from his origin to the venue. this is true as while watching, i came upon this participant who was riding a steel bike, let me transcribe our conversation here (translated in english):
me: sir what category are you entered? you're from where?
participant: we entered the mixed category, we're from proj. 2.
me: what time did you come over here?
p: ah we started from proj 2 at 4:30am last sat. kasi we pedalled from proj 2 to here carrying all our gears. our problem now is pedalling back after racing for 24hrs.
i hope we make the 24 hr race a little bit friendly to both monied and not so-monied (read: guys without own transport) participants.
just my .02 cents to this ongoing discussion.

free transport? that would be ideal and i've done that before pro as i've said before what we can offer to the racers is very much dependent on our budget and if you really wanna join a race you'll be more than willing to do what it takes to get to then venue. it's very easy to say for those who have no idea what we've been through just to organize this event and i'm glad that a lot of people here have appreciated our effort. as of now i'm the only one organizing this kind of event here and we'll do our best to make it a yearly event

Hello peeps! First of all, wanna congratulate the people behind the 24hr race for a very successful event. Kudos to Thumbie and the rest of the organizers!! Everyone at Sabak Sports relished at the experience but would just like to have the laps done checked again. Ricky M., Teddy T. and Mike T. seems to be lacking 1 lap from the official count. ( Ako kulang din ng 1 but di pa rin aabot 15. ) Hehehe! These 3 guys MADE SURE they did 15 laps. Ricky went out 3x doing 5 laps per stint. Teddy had only 2 laps left before he napped at 3am while Mike biked from 3am till about almost 7am just to finish his 15. The experience will always be memorable for all of us. This was our first try at a 24hr event and we surely enjoyed every gruelling minute that passed especially during the wee hours in the morning. Two things we've all learned from this event were...A 24HR RACE NEEDS MORE THAN 12HOURS TO PLAN FOR PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY...and....PROPER LIGHTING MAKES A HUGE HUGE DIFFERENCE!! Looking forward to next year's 24hr event! Ngayon pa lang maghahanda na ako! PS. Manok salamat sa alaga!! Sarap pagkain chang! Tnx!

We were not able to get enough sleep the night before the race (about 1-2hrs of sleep only) due to problem with our transportation. Our body is almost drained of energy during the race. We were just glad all of us managed to reach the quota. I was able to sleep for about 13hrs after the race due to extreme exhaustion.

Fist of all, I would like to congratulate everybody who joined and who cheered/supported the riders.
Second of all, as an electronics professor, I want to suggest something practical and effective regarding the passport for ensuring lap counts. Forget electronic gadgets, or passports. Just use the stamp. Stamp it on the arm or legs or wherever which body part that's free. You can also use stubs which riders sign upon dismount and submit to the counter.
At the end of the race, you show how many stamps you got. and compare with how many stubs the counter got to double check.
Sure, cheaters can go to Rizal Avenue to reproduce a clone and stamp themselves crazy. But how are you gonna slip the same number of stubs into the lap counter guy?
How much does it cost? You do the math.

Congratulations to Thumbie/mountainrunner and his support staff for staging this gruelling 24 hour race! sure we ( team sadik) also have 1 lap not counted . but generally i would say its job well done and huge success. It was also a pleasure meeting alphabolt ,bee and many PinoyMTBiker friends during the race.
PinoyMTBiker China will surely be back next year !

Just use the stamp. Stamp it on the arm or legs or wherever which body part that's free. no cant do! we sweat, remember!? what? stamp our body with mcjo kiddie stamps? with indelible ink? this is not a triathlon race where you can finish this in 2-3-4 hours max... now i remember! the 2003 24-hour mountain bike madness by team montalban (banny, lex, jong, etc.) in maarat, they used bar code reader! a hospital like wristband or something with bar code where it can be read by a 'reader' at the gate...

Rode the track this morning in the rain, a bit muddy but rideable. Just in case you're riding it anytime soon, caution on the area around and near the Jap-era hukay (hole), there are now a lot of broken bottles/glass scattered.

they were already there during the race Yes I know. Even a week before the race, they were there already. But this morning, it seems that they (bubog) have atleast doubled. I don't know if they were placed there recently on purpose or some people had a drinking session and decided to break the empty bottles instead of bringing it with them. Just giving a little warning to fellow bikers riding there.

Picking up of medal prizes around 3pm-530pm (tentatively, as sir thumbie and us need to coordinate with this one the whole afternoon) 2. 535pm at TomatoKick Restaurant
Mode of payment: Semi-KKB hehe [yeah, considerably]How to get there: coming from UP Manny's store, we turn to TMKalaw then right to Lakandula; we exit Jacinto toward C.P. Garcia; turn right to CP Garcia; then turn left to the stop light just after the park at your left side; follow the path 'til you're at Maginhawa st.; right after the center road railings, keep look out for a Lots-A-Pizza to your right coz atop of the building is TomatoKick--its an open veranda (with tapalodo siyempre) and serves good food, pretty crowd. how we wish them 'pretty ones' weren't shooed by weather Map Reference:
