South beach Diet is good if you're going to fallow it right.Need to know the Glycogen index of your food(Filipino food).Ang problema is most of our food(Filipino food) is high in sodium/msg.Sabi nga nila, lahat ng bawal masarap. You have to do a lot of sacrifice if you're going to do it in the Phil.In south beach diet-zero to low carb.,zero to low sodium, avoid high glycogen food in the morning and limit your calorie intake.Use tennis ball((not more than 2 tennis ball-amount of food to eat) to measure the amount of food you eat every meal. After south beach diet and you're already adjusted/conditioned, you can proceed to do CR diet(calorie restriction diet)-one meal a day with eat as needed snacks(healthy snacks like trailmix bar, granola bar,nuts-peanut,almond etc.,fruits) plus Juice/tubig.And dont forget to do your exercise."eat less, live longer!!!"

Problem with south beach is yhat when you get off it, back to normal depends on what's normal with you.
Discipline and determination talaga to change your lifestyle. After that the lifestyle will be second nature.
I used to weigh around 190 at 5'7" when i was high school. Added weight training, cardio and controlled what I ate (not necessarily going hungry). Dropped down to 145 lbs in 6 months. Am now 165 (buffed up a bit). Still does regular cardio. I enjoy my weekend ride the most (around 4 hrs of pedalling).
I gained some x'mas weight (7 lbs), which I lost in a month. When your used to the active lifestyle, losing weight won't be as difficult anymore.
We're lucky, we enjoy an activity that's a surefire fat burner. This is just as long as you burn more than you take in. A pound of fat is around 3500 calories (around 8 hrs of pedal time). So that means to loose a pound of fat in a week, youd have to increase activity, reduce/control intake or both. Good luck!!!

yep yep.
Bike to Maarat from Paranaque, climb the wall, race the xc challenge then bike home. Post Holy Week penitensya.
started at 165 ended at 159. mostly it's just water weight, but I'm sure there's some fat lost there somewhere.

Been struggling the past years..pero not really trying that hard...hehe so what's the most effective and "realistic" approach on losing weight and gaining my six pack? ;D replace your oily meat in tuna and wheat bread for less calorie. dont eat red meat just stick to chicken breast and dont fry it just steam it with few drops of salt for a little salty taste and replace rice with KAMOTE. > this is only for natural food diet. supplements are not included yet. take amino acids and creatine for fast recovery when you work out. lets talk about workout later if you agree to eat these stuff. ;D ;D ;D

disiplina lang ang kailangan mo para pumayat, ika nga lahat ng sobra at kulang ay nakakasama. Take dat into consideration.
*lessen fatty foods, and even junk foods (chicha, going to fastfood, softdrinks etc. *more veggie foods, fruit juices, water *have a regular physical activity (biking, badminton, tennis, jogging, trekking even dancing hehehe) any activity dat can burn those stored calories, coz if you don't burn them magiging stored fat na sya sa katawan natin.
Pero ibang issue na ito pag nasa gene mo na ang pagiging mataba. better consult a professional regarding this.

If I remember some health seminar we had here at the company, proper proportion of what you eat din is important. What I remember clearly is that every meal you eat should have some sort of protein daw, coz carbs without protein are digested by the body quickly, hence converted to sugar quickly, and then to fat or something like that.
One thing din about weight loss, you might not actually lose weight when you start to work out as you gain muscle mass. better measure will be body fat index.

oww man I also trained hard for the past few weeks, pero lumakas ako kumain, the result tumaba lalo ako huhuhu You have to regulate your intake din fafa That;s why I kept a close watch sa ratio ng carbs and proteins ko. parang 4:1 , sa 1 order ng sisig, 4 na lights Seriously, I went crazy dun a training ko and race simulation 3x a week I ate a lot, no strict diet , basta I ate what ever was in front of me When i got sick, nawalan naman ako gana kumain Anyways, I'll see if I can lose 10 more lbs

My problem is when I do cardio, specially biking, I tend to carboload. rice rice and more rice, bread bread cola etc. I dunno if that's psychological.. Or maybe I'm just too hungy I would eat almost anything in sight? Watcha think?

Me personally, I don't get the hang of diets, I usually break it on the first day or so. Try Water therapy - two glasses of water before every meal except during breakfasts. Hope this helps.
If that still fails - add beer at dinner time and then skip dinner (nothing after 6pm diet w/ beer) .. heheh

Basically, you have to eat less and exercise more. Most MTBers I know only ride on weekends.
I did an Atkins/South Beach/Low-carb diet last year in conjunction with hard 2-hour road bike rides every day and lost around 15lbs in 2 months (from 135 to 120 lbs).
