Im a die hard HT fan eversince until i owned a FS.
I used to set my mind that FS are just marketing fad, manufacturers just want our money since basically FS's are far more expensive than most HT's. etc..etc.. until i owned a FS!
i still like hardtail though now i like FS more. gulo ba? ;D

it's just a atter where and who will use it...i'm currently using hardtail but my body absorbs all the abuse, i'm a walking shock absorber....ha ha ha ha...jackhammer trails, rocky down slopes. anyway i'm gonna purchase a ful-sus one of these days....it's just that my type of riding is not for hardtail anymore....and what i can see on me is that i'mm be on the aggressive side of all-mountain to a freerider...it's just that one big factor also is the BUDGET.

When I passed by cartimar, I saw some Titanium Frame ON SALE kasi, you can only put old parts on it, probably, those rames are the 90's first batch of titanium.

how much? what shop? unless it has a 1" head tube it's still fine. you might need to use v-brakes but that's ok.

My first bike is a hardtail taiwan made. for 1 1/2 years. then switch to F/S Downhill type ko. Ung ang kailangan ko. It's not on the bike, It is how you ride them. try downhill 45 degreess at valley golf. U'll see.

Opposite on me hehheh, I am using my 29er HT on long travel biking just like these Holy week and using my FS on short but rough rides.

NO BUDGET yet according to my good accountant. in my case, its the other way around. if its long distance (150kms +), i'll use my hardtail. anything with a lower mileage and has more offroad than road, i'll use a full suspension rig.

Me too, coz HT rules on road, well rounded pedals on the road.

I'd recommend a FS- there are FS that are lighter than some HT's but they will be pricey.
I have a FS ~24 lbs with a lock out. Its not quite as stiff as a HT but stiff enough for those climbs. HT owners are surprised that my FS is within their weights ;D
FS is the way to MT Bike specially on technical terrains.

Sir Spartan, what FS would you recommend? I think I've outgrown my Giant Aluxx XTC HT already. I may have to dispose of it in favor of a FS as I find myself getting more involved with a group who does singletrack and offroad with long XC rides often and I cant seem to keep up with their agility. Considering I think Im already above average strong. I find them relaxed after a long ride. I know I cant afford the Alma or Mojo bikes of my friends but I would at least like to give them a run with an equivalent full susser. I would only need a FS frame as I intend to transfer my light HT (SRAM X-9 comps, Avid brakes, GXP Truvativ Crank) components to my prospected FS. Any suggestions?

that might be ok. the race giants (nrs, xtc) usually have long top tubes.

you might also want to PM brusko becoz he's also 5'8" but uses a small frame. he might be able to explain his preference for such, hehe.
