Good bikers, I'm thinking of purchasing a full sus frame for an XC purpose (maybe on a very very occational aggressive XC) and been thinking the Giant NRS or Anthem. May I request for your inputs to which one is better overall in terms of frame reviews based on your experience, especially its design and its rear shock. Advanced thanks for the replies...

i have no experience on both since i dont have an FS or planning to have one.
But Anthem is the successor of NRS which means that it has a lot more improvement from the latter. .02

I experienced to ride both bikes. NRS and the Anthem... Both is no pedal bob which is always the problem with the FS frame... NRS is not active suspension as Anthem. It works only in the big bumps... Anthem is the newest model of Giant, the Maestro technology. it's the combination of VPP and the FSR suspension technology... ;D In short, Choose the ANTHEM...

hi nhan,
good to hear that you'll be soon upgrading to an FS.
just my 2 cents pare, if you have the budget, go for the anthem. but if you just want to give FS a try, go for the NRS.
again, my 2 cents...
goodluck on your "masamang balak"!

brad nhan,
is it the Star Spangled Banner you're talking or Lupang Hinirang. anyways, will look forward seeing you riding your "song" soon.
good luck to your upgraditis!

bongjumper... thanks for the inputs... all noted... @lui.... yup really interested to use an FS on trail... but i'll still keep my hardtail with me... can't let go my first truly owned bike ;D @arci.... actually both chito and i might sing the song... "Might"... hehe... but i'm still waiting for more replies from the nrs and anthem users to justify which is better based on their experience not by the marketing scheme of the maker....

nhan, just an unsolicited advice... how about looking at other manufacturers? specialized, merida, santa cruz, cannondale, trek, ellesworth, etc... just a thought...

brad jaymz, is this true? then this is something to contemplate on (ala flor contemplacion ) update us on this naman, a penny saved is a penny earned (that can be used later on when the upgraditis itch kicks in) TIA freeman told me one (read: juan, pun intended... hehehe... ;D) can get a merida mission or x-mission half the cost directly from a taiwan lbs... considering we know somebody who is going to the land formerly known as formosa... even i am thinking of getting one... in the future... but not the near future... though... hehehehe...

i agree to the comments of bongjumper since the anthem is the successor of the nrs - then definitely it has the much improved technology and designed in terms of suspension so go for the anthem nhan just don't forget to invite me during the blessing of your new anthem ;D ;D ;D

you hijacked nhan's thread! we're talking about giants here!
i've only ridden the anthem once (a quick spin) and i think it's plusher as compared to the nrs. but i can't give an accurate assessment because the rear shock wasn't dialed in to my weight.
both frames are excellent xc bikes. if you have the cash, go ahead and get the anthem. but if i were you, i'd scout around and look for a 2nd hand NRS for a steal (sold my old nrs for 13k) and i'd use the extra money to get a sweeeet wheelset or fork.

sir Onie, any idea on the weight of anthem frame, including the rear shock? I'm having difficulty searching for the frame weight only...

Been reading some discussions revealing its weight. Some say, it's 2350 grams or just over 5lbs for the aluminum version. AFAIK, no account from Giant's website. If I am missing something else here, then lemme know. Be glad to be updated as well. Mine's med1um @2435 grams (with proprietary Maestro rearshock + spacers: 255g). Sample though front triAngle alone from here reply #3, respectively. HTH. Thanks.

Right now, the reasons I'm not jumping at getting the new Anthem to replace my NRS are: 1. The NRS is still doing a good job and it ain't broke and is easy to maintain 2. The Anthem has hydration problems ... hard to fit a water bottle in the frame which I need for those Antipolo climbs every morning and I don't want to wear a hydration pack for those grinds. 3. The price is still on the high side and there is not enough reason to spend another 30K+ to replace a working NRS frame. 4. I still have an attachment to the NRS ... it's sentimental since it's my 1st FS and HIYANG ako!
Now if somebody offers a good price for a slightly used Anthem AND somebody offers to by my NRS, then I would probably go for the ANTHEM!

Onie.... thanks a lot for the input sir I really like Anthem the way it look, regardless of the design (since the horst link is already proven) but kinda heavy in pocket as well. I want to buy an FS frame in which i can ride and stick till lifetime (drama ko...) in short isahang bili lang and no plans to upgrade or replace frame in the future. If i can find an NRS with reasonable price... most probably NRS is the choice, but if the price difference is small, then i might go the Anthem way.

Frame is the most important... If you can not buy the anthem this time because of budget constraint. Save and plan when you have enough money. No one give you pressure to buy your frame as soon as possible. Be patience and wait for goodluck... just save your money... maybe tomorrow or next month you can find a better offer for the Anthem frame...

Dude ima just tryin to help out. besides, ones entitled to free speech here... Where I found your alibi lame. well let's put it this way Dude... Convince me you'r exerting some effort. To the rides that you missed bcuz you didn't have hydration (if and only if you were to buy an anthem frame) Oh, my bad! Small anthem, almost forgot about it. Almost but not quite so. FYI that's no large frame. Funny thing here, how would you able to tell its large without any decal saying it is so. You'r ridiculous! LMAO. here: Just do yourself a favor, key in "sigg" in any search engine you feel at home using. And the rest is history! So no need for all caps dude. a li'l netiquette will do. pls? For pete's sake! Alright? All's well that end's well... PS all apologies if you felt i've mangled your ego there dude. and also would like to appologize to everyone for wasting space replying. Just cant help not to.
