Just want to warned everyone about a new modus operandi of bike napping along intramuros-lawtown.
Today around 9 am Im riding my hybrid mtb going to my client carrying client's laptop with me. I passed on Jones bridge before reaching the lawtown near the underpass.
There are 4 lanes and an island between 2nd and 3rd lane, fast cars rolling on 3rd and 4th lane so I decided to go to 2nd lane right side of an island instead on 3rd or 4th lane which is I usually do when coming from Jones Bridge. note this is before reaching the combine road from sta cruz bridge.
There were groups of pedicab drivers parked there, one of the pedicab driver saw me approaching, from parked gumitna sya, nung patabi na ako sa kanya then I reduce speed then suddenly sinadyang kinut nya ako pakaliwa, dehins na ako makaiwas dahil tabing tabi na ako sa island. so my right pedal and foot crashes to his front wheel spokes, aba nagmura ang loko minura ko din, may white car sa likod.
so pinark nya ulit ang pedicab nya medyo malayo then nagmumura di daw ako tumitingin sa dinadaanan ko na kaso lumiliko sya! kako ga-go ba sya saan ba sya liliko at island na yun! then saw one old man around 50+ yrs old in racer wearing a yellow jersey stop at the island then said "tsk tsk tsk"
Then palapit yun pedicab naghahamon then 2 other pedicab drivers umikot sa likod ng white car pproaching me too. These old guy in racer told me "batsi na" So I plan to leave then this pedicab guy shouted "ano kala ko ba matapang ka!" So I stopped again I want to give him a dead blow but thinking twice about my bike and my client's laptop so I just answer "maghintay ka pa-padamputin kita!" Aba he replied "di ako natatakot sa lespu, pinapatay namin yun!"
so I just ride looking for lespu, lucky guy no lespu around that area in front of cityhall lawtown around 9am+ ! later this old guy in yellow jersey ride with me, he told me I made the right decision that I didnt make more argue with them. He told me 2 weeks ago his groupmate in amari was also a victim of the same technique, the problem pinatulan daw ng groupmate nya at hinabol pa ng groupmate nya dahil tumakbo daw ,when he got back in few minutes his friend's racer were gone! Then that weekend they went to pier to look for bike for him then saw his friend's bike frame but with generic parts installed na and they are 100% sure about his friends bike bec of some customize stickers. So they went home to inform their friend when they got back, the bike was already sold daw in less than an hour. They ask the seller where did the sold bike's frame come from, someone riding pedicab sold to him daw since they're selling bnew and surplus bikes so they bought it without knowing.
These afternoon naman our collector using our company bike was holdap and bike nap along fairview commonwealth in payatas, according to him he was changing flat tire then after installing the tire the 3 men poke aknife to him get the bike and collections... will post the details and exact location tomorrow
The company bike is Black Scott frame with yellow stickers, yellow rims, shimano hub, black spokes, shimano tourney RD, suntour cranks, suntour FD acera right RD shifter and xtr left FD Shifter.
If you happen to see someone selling it in fairview area pls inform us or the local lespu there thank you.
Just like to inform everyone .......... Ingatz lang ..........

i'm thinking more bike napping may happen in the future as these crooks realize how expensive some of our bikes are. most probably most people think of mtbs as those seen in Toby's etc, costing aroun 2-4k only. what happens when these guys realize we're riding around 20+k bikes aroun???
better think of a way now to prevent bike theft. mace? having some sort of bike registration ala car reg where the seriel number of the engine is marked? stronger community ties between most bike groups such that anyone who rides a ripped-off bike can be easily traced?

yeah more bike nappers when they found out some of us riding a 20k+ bike I think the best way to prevent this is not to answer strangers about how much your bike's real cost, bec usually when we saw a nice bike we are wondering also how much did he spend for it. When I ride my urban bike, mahirap naman maging suplado baka mawala ng fans ;D so I answer them properly when they ask how much my bike cost. I simply answer them mura lang mga 4 to 6k lang. Magugulat sila and wondering where I buy it I simply answer I got it second or third hand and assemble it kaya mura. ;D The bike registration will be nice but the bike's cost will surely increase, what if you will upgrade? it will have more hassle. The best solution for me is to improve the anti-crime group! One good example is if you can recall the guy who lost his bike outside the kings and finally recover it but pay 2k to the authority? correct me if I'm wrong, look if you will serve the country they shouldn't ask for extra services bec we're already the one giving them salary from our taxes. am I right? Another example is happened to me! 1 night I accompany my gf home, then in middle of walking while going to commute place around 1030pm I need to pee since there's no public toilet in paco area so I just pee some corner then later after peeing a mobile patrol car was already in front of me and want to arrest me. Telling me its a crime to pee in the public and the penalty in the headquarters is P500, so he said okey he'll let me go if I pay them P400, I told them I had no money and I keep apologizing and not to do it again, they said "anong magagawa ng sorry mo eh trabaho namin ang manghuli ng violators" then negotiate it to 200 then lastly P50. Then they thank me after that and told me with a smile "huwag ka na pa-pahuli kung iihi ka ha" The next day while having my haircut in barbershop and reading a tabloid that there's a holdup incident 1 block/kanto away from my pee incident and its 3 blocks/kanto away from lespu station. See they want easy money instead of true servicing the public . Im not telling that all lespu are the same, some are good but some need to improve their service to prevent crimes. If the govt dont corrupt anymore and has a budget its better to install a surveillance cam on public areas, it should be recording surveillance not a display only surveillance. Then if the criminal is guilty the best penalty is to cut their both hands and feet ;D

if your not familiar w/ weapons, forget about them baka you 'll get an icepick to the chest for your troubles Best is we are aware of the different MO's of these bike nappers Then always be aware and alert sa paligid The worse MO I'm aware of is when the perps throw a peice of hollow block at your face Then when you stunned and bleeding on the ground, they make off w/ yur bike That would really suck

isn't it in London where they have cameras in place throughout the city? hmmmm, Big Brother is watching . . .
pero agree, whenever someone asks how much our bike costs, I tell them around 2k-3k only (the wheels? hehe). already some people actually find that expensive. or better yet, 'lola gave it to me for christmas, no idea on the price)
one tip I read somewhere is to put inside the headtube ata your information and a sign saying 'this bike was stolen'.
I guess best way is to just always be on your guard.

[glow=yellow,2,300]If someone wants to rob your bike, give it to him immediately and say thank you. Wait 'til he's about to board your bike then push him as hard as you can and bash his head relentlessly. Check if he's still breathing... if he is bash his head again and again.
Then say thank you. [/glow]

Hey Guys, I am almost a victim of their MO's. I always bike from dapitan to eastwood whenever I go to work or at home. When I stoped at E. Rodriguez cor. Araneta, one man asked me what time is it (that was 1:30 PM), while looking at my watch and talking to him I noticed that there were three guys approaching from my right side, then I realized why asking me in the middle of the pedestrian lane.
The man approached me looks like those persons who usually stays (tambay) at the waiting shed near those for sale toilet bowls. Even the light is red I still pass the intersection Thanking God I was not hit by a car.
Just want to inform you guys about the area, Im not sure if they really intend to holdap me or something but the situation is very suspicious. But guys, those scums has a lot of MO's to do bad things, in my own opinion, we sometimes may think as if we are those scums so wo can have an idea how they move or what will be their next MO's.
So sorry for my gramar if you cant understand guys.

bunny hoppin' would realy save your "bike's life" in a situation like this.
Bunny hop on top of the curb.
ei but seriously, my elementary buddy was stabbed to death last week for having a fist fight with a hold-uper. 3 stab wounds, two hits on the lungs and the fatal blow through the heart.
Ingat lang boys!

Jovell, i agree. maybe we can set-up a sting for this, i'm sure we'll catch some of these bastards. instead of paying cops, we pay ourselves with some good thief ass-kicking.

if you really want to bike commute, try to study your way/path. Learn several possible routes that you can take. This minimizes the chance for the bike nappers to possibly wait for you.
Sir Nono, maybe you can invent a bike"shocker" so that when a bike napper gets your bike and uses it it will electricute him. I think around 20,000 volts would be enough ;D

Ok here is the story of the incident in bike nap in commonwealth fairview yesterday. Chris (Our staff) was on his way back to manila from fairview along commonwealth ave the front wheel flat, so he fix it as soon as he installed the wheel 3 men poke a knife at his back get his bike and bag. Then they cross the highway. So Chris run to ask for help and the lespu arrive several minutes, they try to search with 2 lespu and barangays but someone said the bikenapper/holdapers was going on the way to payatas. Now the lespu wouldn't going in bec they might not be able to get out alive daw huh?
After that they are asking for merienda from our staff who had been holdap and bikenap and the criminal got lost because of their iresponsible duties to protect civilian. Poor Philippines.................................. The company bike is Black Scott frame with yellow stickers, yellow rims, shimano hub, black spokes, shimano tourney RD, suntour cranks, suntour FD acera right RD shifter and xtr left FD Shifter.Pls give us a call @ 247-7777 or pm me when you happen to see it in that area thank you.

(OT) I know that in Payatas, the thieves even board passing trucks and steal stuff while moving. Even if the driver and assistants see them, they don't stop for fear of getting hurt. Unfortunately, the local government in San Mateo prohibits loaded trucks from passing there so they have to pass the dangerous hills. That area I think is 'no man's land' because it's in between QC and Rodriguez (Montalban)--so the local governments would rather point at each other for responsibility.
The lespu also have their own racket. My gf who just ventured into junk/scrap collection, had her truck stopped at a checkpoint and the lespu asks for "pang merienda". When the (newbie) driver gave what few money he had (his own pang merienda", the policeman said, "Maybe, next time we don't have to ask, okay?"
Just a warning for fellow bikers, make sure you can fend for yourself or just give up your bike. You can't really trust anyone these days, but maybe our fellow bikers.

Another possible MO is two guys on a motorcycle. During the time when there were time trials in tagaytay, our group of 6 riders biked to tagaytay then proceeded down to a friends house passing thru the canyon woods road going to payapa. I sort of lagged behind to answer a clfn call as my bike mates tore down the descending road. I was alone for about a few seconds w/ my friends out of sight when a motorcycle rode up beside me and was asking questions about the on-going race. I answered and he moved closer & closer to me to hear me better. he got too close for comfort so I changed to my big chainring & smallest gear (i was using a roadbike) and stood up and pedalled really hard, the road was descending so i must have been going 60 + kph and banking low on the turns. He got left behind and couldn't over take but i could hear his engine revving. after about a minute i caught up w/ my biking mates, the motorcycle backed off the moment they saw my bike mates, then slowed down and eventually stopped. I don't know if it was just my imagination, but I didn't want to find out. I didn't even mention to my bike mates till much later. (baka balikan eh, mainitin yung mga ulo nun. hehehe).

@ cyborg : let's go back to jones bridge onna these days brad and give those wanks a F****ng good kicking ;D
for me, like before every week, me, louie pasaway and joey (alien_scream) always cruise every part of manila like past 11PM and go home like 3AM, and so far with the lord's mercy, no incidents yet. maybe it's because they choose who to victimize, i guess (my opinion only) lalo na ung nag iisa. kasi when we always ride we're rowdy as well ;D i always do ride alone like 9PM onwards just to kill boredom and unload fat, going to either timog or baywalk, taking routes such as araneta ave or ayala bridge, etc. so far so good. but i always am on the lookout.
but thieves don't come with a clown suit on time, it's always a surprise, and just take that extra care with us guys! do not ride alone, ride in flocks as much as possible. sometimes it's just awareness that's the foremost key to avoiding such.
