I always pass through the same route (Ortigas Ext to Tikling). Though I haven't seen anything that would pique my curiosity. Again, I'm too busy concentrating on the road and traffic.
I'm starting to rethink my training schedule. I could do a TThS one week and a MWF the next week. Hmmm...

Is there any other weapon we can carry in our hydration packs just in case? telescopic baton?, small knife?, brass knuckles?, stun gun?. i dont want to sound like a war freak, im the kind of guy who dosent like to engage in fights. as much as possible i try to avoid threats.... but i was just thinkin, what if there would come a time that i have to fight back?....

yeah, i think if we have a chance to fight back, why not kick or stab (then bike away!)those bastards instead of just standing and watching them stealing your hardly earned bike! kill those bastards & burn them to death! if you can avoid these situations, pls try to avoid it. like pedal away from trouble but if you have to defend yourself bring out your weapon/s. Best not to be on the offensive coz you may not know what these crooks are capable of. Ride safe!!! Bikenappers should "VANISH"!!!

There are 3 elements of crime. 1. The element of Opportunity 2. The element of Desire 3. The skills of the perpetrator. If one element is missing, the crime would not be consumated. I hope this could help

uyy.. we have a fellow policeman pla in d haus! we'll keep that in mind sir! thanks! @ sir pazigrider- i guess we should not bring our precious hard earned bikes to the streets when we go commute to prevent element #1 eh? let's just build/ bring steel dusty/rusted bikes when passing on isolated areas. heheh.. just my 0.99 cents! ;D ;D ;D

Speaking of which say for instance you parked the bike in a pay parking facility and then what if your bike was stolen, would they be liable for that?? any insights? thanks Read the parking ticket. It sez: Establishment will not be liable for any untoward incident involving your vehicle. Read your insurance contract. It sez: Any incident related to terrorism, natural disaster, etc will not be covered. In other words, if it's not an accident, it's not covered. If you don't have any stipulations with the amount specified, insured with insurance paid for, you can kiss your bleep goodbye if it's stolen by your friendly neighborhood bikenapper! Has anyone of you experienced paying a parking ticket only to get your car towed by MMDA? P30 + P1500. Next time I got an emergency, I'll pee on the wall and pay a P500 fine if ever. Cheaper!

in short, i think it only means that they are not responsible for anything other than the collection of your parking fee. painful the truth is sometimes.

(paid) parking areas offer the service of providing parking space - that's pretty much all there is to it. Security (in the form of uniformed guards) is a mere bonus or wall decor if you may.

I'm in the industry. I've talked to one of our insurance providers and asked them to look into this and see what package they can offer. If there is a market, our bikes can be insured. Right now, a special property floater is what I have in mind. Even if it is limited to theft/robbery of the whole bike alone, I think it would be worth buying, partial losses can be excluded. These insurers are just not aware that there is a market here. There are a lot of bike owners now with bikes which are valued from P20k, 50k and even 200+k! I think that's significant market. Premiums might be a little steep, but what's 5-6% annual premium for worry free riding, right? How a bout a show of hands, if there were some type of insurnce offered, would you purchase one?
Once I get a reply from the insurers, I'll let you all know. Thanks!

i just realized, double purpose ang riding safety gear kahit short ride lang, it would also protect us from the bad guys, specially helmets / pads. lamang na tayo kung makipagpaluan ng ulo.

pray, it works! but also remember: "Faith without [the] works is dead" -bible sad things to read about the lespu. i think the lespu need to improve their image. i personally know a few good policemen, and the bad image is unfair to them. but to think about it, a lot of different things need to change in this country and it's people before good things can happen. for my safety, i always follow a simple set of guidelines, some of them based on what i've read here: 1. be alert 2. know your route 3. take different routes each time you ride 3. don't attract too much attention 4. when suspecting bike-nappers don't be on the offensive, these guys are much prepared at nabbing you 5. ... 6. ... 7. ...

I follow only 2 rules when it comes to situations like this:
1.) If a bike is stolen, another can be assembled. It's just like if you lost money on a bet or in business, you can always find a way to earn it back. 2.) Following my first belief, if my life is threatened, I will gladly give up my bike rather than lose my life. I have my wife and my child to think of, and will always offset the cost of my bike. They can have my bike for all I care as long as they don't harm me.

I read the replies posted under this topic (Page 1 & 2) and I think foreign, native English speakers will be amused to see that Pinoys have done it again- invent new "English" words for local use.
Pinoys today use to the words "carnap" and "carnappers" to mean the crime of stealing cars/vehicles and the criminals who who do it, respectively. I bet they came about as illogical extensions of the the word kidnap- the abduction of persons. In the US they use "car theft" and "car thieves".
Extending the logic further, the crime of stealing bicycles is therefore "bikenap"? And the perpetrators are "bikenappers"? I hope foreigners will see the pattern. Ha-ha-ha!
I'm not saying it's wrong to use these words per se. Among us, OK lang. But I hope you don't use them when you talk to foreigners- specially native English speakers.
Maybe one day these words will make it to the Webster dictionary. Who knows?

i dont think only the pinoys use the word...i read a few articles (foreign) use the word.
i think carjacking is more appropriate term when your car is forcibly taken...if the thief demands a ransom, then its carnapping ;D
