Is it true.."A roadie biker (racer) died last month , at the steep corner at the timberland subv?"
The story goes, he was going downhill very fast, apparently lost control at the steep corner hit his head on the tree, died instantly although he is wearing helmet. If he miss the tree, probably fell on the ravine.
I experience the steep hill last sunday (03Jun2007) just wanna try the fast cornering but, during the cornering.. I applied my rear brake,my rear wheel is skidding, drifting from one side to other.but still I was moving very fast. I was able to decrease speed using two brake applying front & rear brake simultaneously. Luckily I survived.
Anyway the guy (which the story originated) from my rear ask "you ok" I told him "whew sarap pre", but after he was relating the story.. eerr then I was little bit scared!
Just a caution for speed junkies ok..

There are numerous accidents already on that portion of Maarat Wall. I personally saw someone fly across two trees and landed on the mound of soil (now there is a construction site there). His "mall" bike broke into two and his helmet was cracked. He drifted in and out of consciousness for about an hour. According to his brother (another MTBiker), he experience dizzy spells and headaches for more than a week.
This is section is especially dangerous during the rainy months when the side becomes very slippery due to the water and gravel.
There are several other accidents... so don't be one of them. Slow down at the beginning of the descent and just flow.

i saw a drunk motorcyclist crash on that section of the wall, no helmets, full of scratches, but he survived, be careful when going down the wall! reduce speed before the corners

i personally saw an accident happen down the wall (june 10, 2006 10AM) . 2 cyclists making "tahi" (sorry dunno the bike term for this) up the wall and one rider in a black yukon downwards. the 2 cyclist didnt mind the guy in the black MTB so they kept on tahi tahi up the wall...downward guy slams the brakes turtle tops twice coz he was wearing clipless. cycling shorts ripped, underwear showing and gruesome scratches/wounds on the left thigh , elbows (left and right scratched too)..ego hurt too coz his undies were local. The 2 bikers still went up as if nothing happened and didnt bother to stop.
T'was raining that time so hitting the brakes real hard will do you no good.
BTW, that was me on the black MTB. To the 2 tahi-tian cyclist up the wall...well, hope it doesnt happen to you.
Ingat po sa wall...going down.

Maybe they should put a placard in the corners.."CAUTION APPLY BRAKES NOW!" ;D ;D ;D BEST, if the put "slow down bikers". Feather braking only and not go beyond 20 kph (should be even less) when going left to that elbow. I sometimes get off my bike and walk down that elbow socs. I still get scared going down.

or better yet, put HUMPS on every "siko", paint it black with yellow stripes so these HUMPs will serve as a ramp (rampa) for our downhiller brother's.. ;D ;D (joke only) seriously, let's be extra carefull as yukon have told us, feather brake and not go beyond 20kph as we aproach every siko section of the wall.

am not as frequent to maarat as many of the peeps here do but i've seen (and heard, too) so many accidents that happened there that i lost count already...not only to cyclists but motorists as well...i used to post them in forums to warn others but i guess i just got tired (pls dont ) unfortunately, majority of those who met their accident there were newbies (and prolly cocky too) who prolly never heard of those accidents...so i guess one of the best things we could do is warn before hand any newbie that we dare take there for a ride...i do that...and i dont care if i wud sound like an overly protective father coz i know that if they ride the place frequent enough they will eventually understand.

I am guilty of speeding way past 60 kph going down the Wall. I pwamis to try to slow down. I pwamis not to be so reckless as to encourage others to do the same.
Seriously, for those considering to speed down the Wall, try getting hydros. Mech discs have a hard time breaking. Especially that very sharp SIKO (3rd from the last I think), the one that is almost like a switchback to the right.

BTW, was on VBrakes when I had my share of intimate moments with the WALL. Ingat! Ride Safe

ehh lets post (2X4ft) of Mod warlock pics.. My mishap and limping away with just few scratches really made me realize the stupidity of my action (thats going after juboy). But I heard the other Glob Mod staind accident turned differently, good thing Doc Minotaur were riding with them. Nel, theres actually a small warning nailed on the rock face just few meters from the curve. With momentum & speed you gathered this will just be a blur. A series of this should be erected...along with "Reduce Speed Accident Prone Area Ahead" seen a lot of this somewhere...dunno if its here in jp or back home.

I saw that brad...but its too wrongly placed and not loud enough whenever we bomb down the Wall...I cant see anything much before that sharp turn coz we re already going too fast...so best to put a new sign right before the straightaway (maybe on the right side of the road)

i also experienced it too.... im using vbrakes before in my SS....that's why i stopped trusting vbrakes... the 2nd elbow turn from top is really dangerous specially nowadays coz i've been seeing scattered broken glasses all over elbow turns.... irritating coz im prone to flat before........ oh well, after that accident i promised not to speedup goin down that wall...........

Re-Staind: that was really scary. I still remember seeing Staind's crash every time I pass that siko going up or down.. I agree with Lamok, he was one of the strongest and skillful riders I've ridden with.. he was just going too fast that time. I think he was never the same again after that accident, he also broke his elbow aside being bloodied all over.. thank God he survived. And thank God doc Brahm (minotaur) was riding with us. Ingat everyone! So we all keep riding

Crash on concrete causes more damage than crashing on trail. It will be a good thing if and when going down " The Wall" to warn others especially newbies to watch out for speed and curves. Sometime adrenaline rush comes into picture when riding with many other riders. Rather go fast going uphill than downhill. Crashes normally happen on fast downhill. Slowdown and come back the next ride.

What about riders who does not have a Dr. nearby? kaya pala last ride ko may naamoy akong "sinog" During the high speed "siko" turn.. I was cleaning my bike I notice a burnt marks on BB5 rotor. But still the brakes works fine, medyo panget tingan.

seriously guys! my opinion over the danger sot and the blind spot of the wall going down is to slow down and dont be a show off flying down the wall!!! us riders can go as fast as we want but we should be alert when ti slow down specailly on the siko! another dangerous thing on descending the wall is be very carefull on the athor ridrs or vechicles because almost all of the part of the wall is a blind spot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would just add on this brad's... yesterday i went to timberland, i saw a isuzu elf truck (commonly used by construction shop's in delivering sand, etc..) crashes on the siko part of the wall...then this morning as i came back to timberland, the elf truck was already been removed...thus anybody here knows the story behind it?? again, extra care should be imposed in going down to the wall Did you see any bike parts... Sana naman wala..
