it is also nice to carry "NIGHT STICK" for self-defense. Last Sunday, April 1. I went to quiapo to buy helmet. At around 7 pm, when i was at my way home. i was passing along FEU New Building, i saw a drunk man crossing at about 10 meters away from me, at that time i am the only one passing MORAYTA to espana. i thought he was just crossing, then he tries to punch me and grab my helmet. I quickly turn to left to avoid his punch, then i grab my night stick to prepare whatever may happens. he went back then runs across the street. he keep on making a dirty finger sign on me. then i wait.... till he enters a dark street nearby FEU. I think he is going to call some reinforcement of ADIKS or tambays, i took my bike then rush to exit that MORAYTA ST., that was my first adrenalin experience..... for me, it's good to bring some gadgets for self-defense.

my friend ots better not to ride at night especially in quiapo. my brother that time was being holdup there. good thing he bought in his knife and stub the holdupper 3x in the side. the holdupper run away and hide. and the cell phone in my brothers pocket wasn't being pick up by the holdupper.
never go along MORAYTA ST. and FEU at night with out companion. thats the only self defence you can. I also will say muntik na rin ako maholdup doon sa morayta habang nag lalakad dati doon tuwing gabi at buti alang nakuha sa akin.

i'd say, the best self-defense gadget after precaution is the quick reflex and alertness. if you can't avoid going there then you'd better be quick and swift.

compact pepper sprays or cheap bronco manufactured tear gas... I think it would be effective because... 1. if they are hit like with pepper sprays they'll have this burning feeling no chili sause have ever done...and in teargas i think it's like severe coughing and they will find hardships in breathing either opening their eyes... 2. if you decide to be a bit generous, kick their A$$es, but make sure to knock 'em down...

For me the best self defense weapon is my "LEATHERMAN WAVE 04 model", there is a knife on the side, for quick *slash & dash. (*meaning: you slash then run.)
If u dash & he catchup, throw the leatherman sakit noon!!! ;D

1st option: just pedal like all the hounds of hell are chasing you 2nd option: teargas...works most of the time they say ...unless the attacker is really crazed (Shabu etc etc) Last option: but if you re cornered.... I always wanted to cut my seatpost's last 2 1/2 inches diagonally ...so it can serve as a spear [when cornered only k]. then sharpen the tip using a bench grinder Isnt that a practical last resort idea? ...safe when sheathed in the seattube /when not used to defend oneself make sure your seatclamp s a QR type though

I will go with: 1. Avoidance 2. Precaution 3. Safety in numbers These are the safest way to go. We can be strong bikers or strong fighters, but in the streets, the professional muggers always wins. Why? 1. They are in the dark, and we, the victims are in the open. 2. It's their territory. They know the space, the routes, the preparation, the traps, the deadends. In short, they run the script of the story. 3. They have the numbers. Muggers are usually spineless pieces of trash. They don't (have the guts to) work alone. 4. They are more than willing to kill or maim. 5. Practice makes perfect. 6. They may be in connivance with the authorities or residents in the territory. So I would rather prefer not to use those safety gadgets. They can be used against yourself either intentionally or otherwise. If you have the intention of using them, know how to use them and practice like your life depends on it because it does. With all the practice and the skills on using sprays or weapons, understand that you are only unwisely endangering yourself in doing so... ... when it is so much prudent to schedule the time. ... when it is so much easier to just avoid passing by questionable places at questionable time (like before 6a.m. or after 7p.m. along Morayta). ... when it is so much safer to bring at least 2 other friends along! Just my 2 cents on this topic. After all, the word "gadgets" caught my attention. After all, I used to teach College Physics in FEU Morayta. After all, I used to get mugged (as a student) in the gym with Martial Arts Gurus (of different disciplines). And one thing I realized is that, it's different to be a forum striker (or a forum rider for that matter) than figthing in the dojo. It's different fighting in the dojo from fighting live with cameras and audiences and distractions like lights, smell, heat, and the duration of the fight. It's different fighting in competitions and fighting in the streets where you life is at stake. Btw, one day it just hit me that I hate fighting, getting black and blue all over, sleeping for weeks (under Alaxan medication) and those punishing training. All the physical training is useless when emotional maturity does not occur at the same time. It only gives a false sense of security, an absurd sense of insecurity, and a different way of life (it becomes a war game). In a nutshell, the best self-defense gadgets is your coconut. Know the place and time to avoid. Take precaution by using a different route than the one in question. Bring 2 friends or more. Remember 1. Avoidance 2. Precaution 3. Safety in numbers Be safe! P.S. You can drop by Hans Gadgets Store for interesting stuff. No, I don't own the store! I wish!

If not only for the sense of urgency to defend oneself, I would've recommend the following: -- strike the Bad Guy (BG) with "ultra-electro magnetic COGS" using the chain a la Voltes V ... or use dismantled COGS a la ninja-- Make the BG a moving target with: • acid-laced SPOKES-pana (i have 72 of them) • SEATPOST (d old type, with pre attached rubber strip at the tube's end), and • SADDLE (--must have "fart holes" ; ;D ) How?: same concept with tirador, only more accurate since the the seatpost will serve as the barrel & other end/tip of the spoke will rest on the saddle's hole. The saddle's tip will be the front sight After disabling the BG, place the "honesty RIM" around him then ask questions later-- a la Wonder Woman naman ;D ;D And what's the inner diameter of your straight handlebar...or seatpost tube, hmmmm??? esep esep! Is this the "Are you an 80's person" thread ba?

You can drop by Hans Gadgets Store for interesting stuff. No, I don't own the store! I wish! yes it's very effective sir... but there are also moments where running is not an option... at least if you have a simple objcet that could be a weapon... the proper reason why you would choose a gadget or a weapon is it fits you and you can utilize it to it's full potencial (which mastering it is also a thing that that may take time...) but at least arming yourself with something which may intimidate an adversary is a big advantage... and it doesn't mean if your able to fight you will always fight... for example... this happen to my co-workers...(if you think this is just a crazy made-up story, and you wanna confirm let me know I'll be gladly to give you his full name and adress at project 4 QC, he may be different nowadays because he's kinda on his mid 40's...then ask him or his son to a lil sparing...then keep me posted). My two oficemate were walking at QC ave./Edsa waitng for a bus after work, a bunch of punks was directly on their way armed with Icepicks and some fun knives, knowing that those boys was about to reach them, they decided to prepare to what mighthappen, one of my oficemate (Kuya Jun.) armed himself with his very big balisong and the other ( Kuya Boy. ) I think carries a baton because his one of the blackbelts in real life Shotokan/Kung-fu and as far as I know he's also a YAWYAN practicetioner and not just a d@mn wannabe... the would be attackers saw that their soon to be victims are more dangerous than them, they easily fleed... ............................................................................................................ for me... 1. Avoidance 2. Precaution 3. Safety in numbers These are the safest way to go. We can be strong bikers or strong fighters, if were gonna use thhese two... 1. Avoidance 2. Precaution but in the streets, the professional muggers always wins...I don't think so...Why? if.... 3. Safety in numbers...there could also be power in numbers if your with someone who's willing to watch your back... 1. They are in the dark, and we, the victims are in the open. a typical prey and predator thing...2. It's their territory. They know the space, the routes, the preparation, the traps, the deadends. In short, they run the script of the story. Don't play their game...do a one, shot one kill...
3. They have the numbers. Muggers are usually spineless pieces of trash. They don't (have the guts to) work alone. in this case if your alone it's really hard, so heads up...try to avoid as long as you can...but still if things get worst, no bystander would stand near you so beware of those additional ass...4. They are more than willing to kill or maim. if you tried to avoid but still being follwed, don't wait to be/or get cornered...prepare your gadget/weapon,if the need really arise, use it...don't panic and stay focused and also try to assest your surroundings always...5. Practice makes perfect. know your weapon/gadget, if it's used in striking or it is used with a certain distance...etc... an ordinary slide cutter could be a very effective weapon...don't use a slide cutter for stabbing, use it for slashing...
6. They may be in connivance with the authorities or residents in the territory. if this is the case... KILL THEM ALL... Let God sort them out... ;D ;D ;D So I would rather prefer not to use those safety gadgets. They can be used against yourself either intentionally or otherwise. If you have the intention of using them, know how to use them and practice like your life depends on it because it does. -indeedWith all the practice and the skills on using sprays or weapons, understand that you are only unwisely endangering yourself in doing so... but still sometimes running is not a very good option ... when it is so much prudent to schedule the time. -true... when it is so much easier to just avoid passing by questionable places at questionable time (like before 6a.m. or after 7p.m. along Morayta). -Best Thing To Do...... when it is so much safer to bring at least 2 other friends along!

probably the reason is your busy with the ones in front of you and you didn'y notice that your stabbed at the back...I guess this is true if once stabbed but for two or more strikes, you might probably know...
And sir on your very bad experience, I guess the sting would like be from a very sharp and very big needle...

Handgun. Sorry Alphabolt, I've always carried a gun when I was there. You should always do your best not to be on the disadvantage in any conflict. HOWEVER, if you do decide to carry a gun, make sure you get PROPER TRAINING.

i used to carry gun too...and you get used to it...but there are occasions that you just cant carry one and you get this feeling that something is missing...sometimes your mind will just wander and think of what if's...you feel almost defenseless. i hated that feeling...now i no longer carry one and i dont mind at all...but it's just me peeps. btw, the last time i was in bulacan, my father told me about a shooting near a wet market...the barangay captain of sapang palay proper was shot point blank (my pamangkin said its a head shot) when he was about to board his vehicle...he's known to be an avid shooter and i believe also owns the shooting range where we used to frequent somewhere in tigbe. i turned out that there was an ongoing holdup in one of the matket stalls...one of the holduppers, on his way to escape saw the barangay captain openning the door of his car...knowing that he usually carry a gun, shot him right away...he didnt know that the captain was not even aware of what was going on..tsk! just think about it. just be careful peeps and be patient.
