hi marvs, i haven't been running for nearly a month now. but my brad. challenged me to a duathlon inside the village so i guess i need to start running again. if my sched permits, maybe i could run the bull run. are you running in the pasig marathon? Marathon is still too soon and is still a dream. I'll be running the 10k of that event. I hope to improve my 10k then 21k first. See you there!

i've started running/jogging/walking recently, so i'm a real newbie at this. i joined a fun run before, finished 10K in a little over an hour. now i can do 7K in a little less than 40 mins.
although on my efforts above, it goes something like, jogging for about 3/5 of the time and walking 2/5 of the time. is this normal? or i really need to run the whole time?
btw, i lost 6 lbs. in two weeks, run twice a week and wall climbing once a week.

hi anthrax 10K in less than an hour is a respectable time IMHO @last UP ICHTUS Century run, i did the 10K (my first 10K run) in 1h, 40m hehehe, i might have done it 1.5hrs had i not made some small detour to look for a place to pee ;D i've started running/jogging/walking recently, so i'm a real newbie at this. i joined a fun run before, finished 10K in a little over an hour. now i can do 7K in a little less than 40 mins. although on my efforts above, it goes something like, jogging for about 3/5 of the time and walking 2/5 of the time. is this normal? or i really need to run the whole time? btw, i lost 6 lbs. in two weeks, run twice a week and wall climbing once a week.

thanks i wish i could join more events. @feline, a friend of mine was recommending the bull run, unfortunately i was fully booked last weekend although i would've enjoyed it. Sir arci, i'll to look for something like 'run for a cause'. i ran before on an awareness for Cerebral Palsy, clocked in 1 hour 10 mins for 10K. btw...the place to pee is also another challenge. btw....thanks for the links, in this thread. it will be very helpful, I'll try to do 3x a week run.

running is a very demanding sports...once you stop for a week or longer, it's hard to start your motivation up again and going

Running as part of my cross-training has been great. It contributed to losing 11lbs for the last 2 months. Although since I only run on weekends, I've reached a pleteau on my progress (d@mn nightshift). I think I need to do more to improve. Ran the last 3 10k weekends. Will be doing the DND 21k next. I hope I at least finish without having to walk...

The Men's Health All Terrain Race is on June. There's a trail run and MTB XC Race. Most likely I'd be riding tho since there are runs all year round and very few MTB races.

Question? w/c part of your feet strikes the pavement first? Heel? midfoot? forefoot? I'm trying to experiment w/ running and landing on my forefoot I've tried it out last weekend on a slow 5k and no knee pain at all i'll try it again this weekend

My problem w/ heels first and midfoot landing is I have flat feet I'm an overpronator and I've tried motion cintrol shoes at orthotics nothing works and I get the same injury pablik balik lang When I land on the balls of my feet ( feet have balls! , dehins nag pronate paa ko and your right , I tried it for 5k lang slow and my calves down to my achilles are sore for 3 days already hehe but I'd prefer muscles pain to joint pain

Kenyans and others who run barefoot use forefoot running since it would be very painful to run heel first barefoot. They're the most successful bunch of distance runners so far. Kenyan runners are normally thin and scrawny meaning they're very light. Not much pressure on the calves and connective tissue there.
Problem is, I'm not too light myself which is an impediment to running in general. I'd have to try forefoot running in shorter distances first to strengthen my calves and achilles tendon. Hopefully there is little risk in getting an achilles whiplash injury with this (torn achilles tendon).

Is there anything organized here for newbies in running? Like an MP3 running (trans: poser run or a run at jog pace with some walking in between) of sorts? A cardio exercise to complement my return to mt biking. If there is I'd like to enlist.
