Hi Bernie...according to my brad na very serious in his physical training for triathlon...mas maganda daw magpalakas ng resistensya ang running...take note not jogging...and it's better than climbing uphills on a bike also. However, climbing hills on an mtb is more enjoyable...imho...and you learn technical riding skills at the same time ;D

Bernie, Luck of oxygen going to the brain cause this problem. If you want to have a strong cardiovascular system in biking. You need to train more in the saddle rather than running. This will adjust your body specifically just biking. Training for this are interval, sprint and long hours of riding. But if you do triathalon you need to add running.
best training for cycling is cycling. The problem with fun cyclist during the climb is that they over exert. They reach their anabolic thereshold and simply burn out. That is one of the reasons I invested in a heart rate monitor. when I climb anitpolo alot of cyclist pass me huff and puffin. I looked at monitor if I am pushing to hard 90% or more of my max heart rate I simply just pace myslef but if I see I can still can afford a little bit of effort I do so. When I reached the top the cyclist that past me some are on the side of the road breath like fish out of water. use it like you would a Tachometer on a car. You dont push beyond the redline or your engine will blow. pretty much like your body.
We are not like miguel Indurain who has a resting heartbeat rate of 28. His heart rate can climb to 190 and dropped within 30 seconds to 80bpm. The more fit you are the fater your heart can recover.
Intervals routine are one of the best training for cardio on a bike.
Like the Great Cannibal Eddy Merckx said when asked how he became one of the greatest cyclist "Ride lots"
Michael Indurain is an excetional human being he has a bigger lungs (can hold more VO2 Max ) more than any biker in the 90's. But you are right.. heart rate monitor help a lot cause you be able to see your limit and as I mentioned above training comment to be a better rider you need to log more hours on the saddle to store more oxygen .
Madidevelop mo lang talaga yang increased lung capacity through frequent exercise/training. As u can see most conditioned riders are barrel chested, thats from having bigger lung/capacity( m.indurain can hold up to 6liters of oxygen compared to 2.5 L for the normal person)
Effective cardiovascular exercise cannot only be measured on beats per minute but also how much volume of blood can heart eject per beat(quality of contraction).
Question, papanong nag collapse? as in shock talga (hinimatay?).
Or ung collapse na tumigil at nde na makalakad up?
Ang pagkakalalam ko pag ung una nangyari (shock), try to strech him out and check kung may heart beat at kung may respiration.

If the person colapse but still conscious, able to breath, and with pulse, just expose him/her to fresh air, loosen all constrictve clothing and determine the cause of the problem eg. hypoglycemia, heartproblem etc. if low sugar is the cause u can give him/her some like candy, table sugar etc. For people who have pre existing problem like heart, hypertension etc. it is advisable that they'll bring some meds with them, just in case.
If somebody colapse unconscious with good breathing and with good pulse just put him/her on sidelying position to prevent aspiration, monitor the vital signs and call for help.
If unconscous no pulse and no breathing- start CPR and let somebody call for help.
Personally.i dont see whats the problem Bakit kasi dehins sila tumigil pag pagod na sila , nakakahiya himatayin! If your chest is about to pop, stop and walk Pero, wag basta tumigil. Cool down din, kundi, sigurado hilo ka

One of the reasons I took 1st aid a long time ago for things like this. It's a very good investment to take up 1st aid from your local Red Cross . I am due for a recertification anyone interested to join me .It is ideal to always bring 1st aid kit and have someone along who knows how to use it especially for long rides.
Another reason bakit may hinihimatay on this sport kasi during increased activity there's what they called blood pooling( more blood goin to legs, arms and other peripherals) leaving the brain less blood.
for people with pre existing condition siguro mas ok kung you'll talk to your doc on how hard you can go to this sport and also inform your bike buddies about it para naman alam nila(nakakahiya pero it'll save life!)
It's like everybody knows how to fix a bike, now its time to know how to fix a rider. That's a good idea talga, go for it and goodluck! siguradohin nyo lang na may maniquin ang instructor baka sa pag mouth to mouth kayo kayo lang rin, pwee! hehehe...
