I was amazed looking to those bikers wearing cleats or cleapless pedals. But for my biking style it never fits to me. I used my bike all the time, going work, biking to market, or even (pangsundo ki misis) I wear slippers. It's so "BADUY" using cleapless shoes to work hehehe.
When I am riding with my fellow riders from road to trail. I find it so hard for them when they ascend and descend the tracks. Base on my experience from BMX rider to Mountain biker, I find it easier using flat pedals, especially jumping over the sidewalks to avoid traffic.
I've never experienced "semplang" so far (knock on the wood).

Good thing you know which product for your riding style suits you best. True that clipless shoes are baduy for office, can you imagine employees in a little formal or polo shirt wearing clipless. But if your work is more of a casual company that requires casual clothing,. there are shoes that resembles trainers like the Adidas Minrett and some Shimano models too. Or yoy can bring and extra pair of shoes, That's what I do.
Like most people says, it's amatter of preferrence. But IMO, I found most of the guys using clipless pedals are'nt comfortable riding without em even just for an easy spin or buying suka in the store.
Most dont find it hard to ascend and descend, maybe those you saw are newbies or ex bmx riders who are used to flat pedals.
In due time, they will get the hang of it or masasanay din sila. Have you tried clipless? Give it a shot, your jumps to and from sidewalks will be easier and higher.
