same here, heard they weren't very durable but i'm not sure if they were used for freeriding. i've met other people say they were good but they use it for xc and xc only. from what i hear nadu-durog daw yung bearings sa loob when its used for aggressive riding. looks a little flimsy to me but i'm almost a clyde at 180lbs and i'm not very skilled so i need components that can take the abuse. ;D its light as hell. if you don't plan to do any real hard riding and are pretty light weight these hubs may serve you well.

There are mix reviews on the said hubs... considering this is the same hubs sold by WTB as Laserdisc Lite, a lot of users rave about the WTB version...and loads of complain on the am classic ones. Here's the link on mtbr discussion about the wtb hubs *LINK*

I've used these hubs for a year and it served me well. They are very light, very smooth, very easy to rotate and I was very happy with it. It was really intended for XC use so do not think of planning to abuse it. If you're more of the person who more pedalling, these hubs are for you. But if you do jumps, then stay away from it. My hubs lasted me for more than a year with approximately 3,000 kms in it.
The rear hub bearings gave in last November because of my carelessness. There were a lot of times when I would just let my bike dry out after the rides during the rainy season, so the bearings got rusted and busted. Had I been more extra careful, it would have lasted me longer. These hubs need TLC.
And yes, the sealed bearings are very difficult to find. As a matter of fact, I haven't found one for myself. I just had the bearings from my rear hub repacked and swapped it with the bearing from my front hub, that is why I can still use it. The rear hub is now as smooth as it was before. However, the front hubs still rotate easily, but not as smooth.
Bottomline, using these hubs for the proper application, along with the proper care will make you a happy owner. But if you do not take proper care of it, it would really give you outrageous and dangerous problems as far as your hubs shutting to a stop while riding.

American Classic initiated the filing of a voluntary recall of the American Classic ultralight cassette rear hubs for road and mountain bikes manufactured from January 1, 2005 to June 5, 2005. American Classic is awaiting final approval from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. There have been no reported injuries. American Classic believes it is important to give advance notice of the recall and provide riders the necessary information for safety reasons. There is a manufacturing error in the cam plate, which may cause the cassette body to improperly engage. American Classic asks that riders stop riding the rear hub/rear wheel until a bike shop mechanic installs a new cam plate. All American Classic aftermarket rear wheels are subject to the recall as well as the following 2005 bike models which are reported to have the American Classic rear wheels or rear hubs: Fuji Team Superlight Orbea Aletta, Onix, Lobular 50, Dama Race, Mitis Dama, Mitis Felt F55 and F2C Fetish Road and Mountain Bikes Argon 18 Motobecane LeChampion The way to identify if your rear hub is subject to the recall is to: § First, determine if the rear hub/rear wheel was purchased/manufactured after January 1, 2005 § Second, look at the outside of the rear hub shell for the serial number. The serial number is printed on the center of the hub shell opposite to the American Classic logo. The serial numbers involved in the recall start with the letter “S”. The solution is American Classic will provide free replacement cam plates and instructions for hubs under the recall. A bike shop labor voucher is available if required. Wheels and hubs do not need to be sent back to American Classic for the replacement. Please contact American Classic to receive a new cam plate and instructions at our toll free recall line 1-800-345-8356 and have your serial number available. International callers, please call 813-514-2349. American Classic apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused and thanks the riders and bike shops for their patience and support. a friend of mine bought replacement bearings from there for his crossrocs. they didn't last because the seals weren't as durable as the ones originally spec'ed by mavic. na durog tapos nasira pa yung hub race. in the end he had to salvage a hub from a cheap wheelset. in the end, that's the downside of using a built wheelset- it's hard to get replacement parts, especially for the ones with a low spoke count.

hi, check with extreme bikes. i heard they have AC bearings.
also saw this info on how to set rear hubs.
If there is no side-to-side play in the bearings, you have over-tightened the bearings, which will result in the bearings wearing out prematurely. The correct amount of play is just slightly more than no play. If you cannot adjust your bearings to "slightly more than no play,".
Guess that means to loosen the bearings a tiny fraction.

now, they say the 07 versions of these hubs are "improved" versions. they say that the previous known issue has already been "fixed". i think this is true. Bruce and Mt.G has 'em and so far im not hearing any complaints from them. and these guys ride hard.
now,i was able to talk to someone last night who has the same hubs as these two and after just 2++ mos using the exact same hubs,he now has an issue with the front hub having "slight" play (kalog). and he says he is "mahinhin" on tech sections and DH's.
isolated case? too soon to tell? im still a bit confident in purchasing one since this is the first case i've heard for the 07 models.
