the previous two long weeks had been tough for this group of bikers....some exposed themselves to cross training and more training....twice a week paved, flat and fast 40 km (+/-) early morning Coastal Road rides...guimaras paved and rough punishing uphills....west and central Iloilo route - long and "head-on wind" paved rides.....proper and balanced mental and physical conditioning.....psyching up....daily bike kingdom meet-ups....nightly "pincaq" pep talks....carbo loading....logistics planning....bike conditioning....solicited advises from some Bucari veterans.....unsolicited advises from wiseguys....doubts...fears....all these add up to the excitement of the much long awaited ride - the Bucari ascent.
Leon is a 25 km(+/-) town north west of Iloilo City. Bucari, a mountain barrio of Leon is 25 kms or a 40 min jeepney ride from the town proper. Bucari, the "Summer Capital" of Iloilo is part of the province-wide Eco Tourism Zone. Just like Baguio City, the place has its share of low temps, pine trees, foggy weather and good crops.
today the 35 bikers were all pumped up and ready to roll and all roads lead to Bucari. Some strong ones had the option to ride all the way from the city. Some shared rides and the rest were loaded up Sir Alvin's utility truck. Meet up point was Leon's town plaza. At 9am the guys rolled the 25 km distance all the way up to Brgy Bucari....a mixed of rough, rocky, clay and paved road, the first 10 kms is rolling terrain but the remaining 15 kms is....... uphill.
what comes up....must come down....and yes...the descent was sweet....15 kms of fast descent....a payback for a trade off
this is a true story of strong will, patience, camaraderie, fun and laughter, encouragement, and the "bayanihan spirit" over the factors of doubt, fear, pain, agony, exhaustion, giving-up and defeat.
a poem of inspiration, a lifetime friendship, a partner and a team.
a summary of a fullfillment.....a narrative for the books.....a tale of real love.....a sonnet of VICTORY.
the usual modes of transpo if ur going up Bucari
1. a kuliglig
2. a motorcycle
3 a beast of burden
4. an animal-drawn carriage......
....pulled by a thousand of these
5. ur shoes, slippers or simply ur bare feet....fully recommended w an mp3 player....its gonna be a long walk to the clouds
6. the monster trucks
w a thousand spare tires
and double rear tires
these monster trucks wrap big chains to the rear tires for extra traction in any rainy day
or if ur travelling in a large group. u could always have a big group hug and pretend riding a monster truck....group rates are almost always cheaper
