Had some visiting riders up over the holiday... one guy, quite new and with a fairly low end bike, told me he was planning to upgrade to a Sta Cruz FS bike that he could get for 4500 in Quiapo. Thing is, he didn't realize that the frame isn't really a Sta Cruz.
Ok, it's really obvious if you've been around bikes a while, but not everyone has. What I'm wondering is if retailers are passing these frames off to newbies as the real thing. If so, the shop involved should be liable for some serious retribution. Ok to sell these things as long as it is clearly explained to prospective buyers that it is NOT the real thing... but if they are passed off as the real thing, that's outright fraud in my book.

The superlayt is not intended for the trail. just look at the shox. of course, you can. But I would not advise it. I've heard a lot of stories from it around bike shops, most of it bad. I would "consider" other imitation frames if they get it right. after all, we are in the phil where most people wouldn't even consider paying more than 1t for a frame. its where most of our kababayans are. Never look down on another man's ride, be it fake or orig. Going back, superlayt structure feels nice, plush. it might survive, however the overall build quality is suspect.

This is a cheap frame. If you are to leasure biking it may be OK but not if you do downhill or even XC rides. I've seen actual bottom brakets cracked (my friend's sinuperlite). I almost got this frame too and I am happy I did not coz my riding style is AXC. Get something else with warranty even its a little more expensive. Also do not sacrifice your safety for the looks and cost.

Peeps, Allow me to share my experience on unbranded/generic FS frame. Back is Cebu, my freeride/Dh rig was built on a 3.5k php generic Al single pivot (sealed bearing) frame... it is so called a "Y-frame" if I am correct. I had paired it with a 5th Element CVT5 (8.5" i2i) in the rear and a Zoke Jr T (2003 model) at the front. I used this rig for trail, Dj (just jump and land... 10-12 ft big air to tranny w/ gap), freeride and DH racing. It had survived all the beatings for almost 3 years. I still ride my rig if I'm at home for a vacation... the same beating will be given to the rig ;D. I weigh 140 lbs. Again, its an unbranded FS frame. I have ridding buddies who also used the same frame... all survived their beatings except one . Maybe, the frame can not withstand his style... he's an animal I would say ;D... (my friend, you know who you are ). Your Stinky can handle you ;D. Now, back to the topic. Design, metal/alloy type and workmanship will play a vital role on MTB frames. If you have the dough, you can go to the branded ones otherwise, you can settle to the generic ones but the long term reliability will depend on your riding style for those generic frames. For this specific Relica, a ridding buddy (C.E.B.U member) also used one. Converted the bushings to bearings. The usual ride is trail (single tracks with rain rots, jumps, drops, rock garden etc...) during saturdays and yet the frame stood up the stress that's thrown into it.

I just can't resist to react, with that have been said about this frame. One of my riding buddy, also a newbie own as Sta Cruz Replica frame. Unfortunately he don't ride with us at the moment...why?..... Because that frame got busted same thing with what this thread has described. Being a newbie he not that aggressive, most of the time we just do catch up with the more experienced guys.
I work in a manufacturing plant and all I could say is QUALITY goes hand in hand with CONSISTENCY.
Don't buy the frame period. If you happen to have one just be careful...just a older brother comment.
Ride safe....

Just have it tig welded and add some support plates of T6 aluminum if you crack yours. If it cracks on that area it means its the weakest point and if addressed wont be weak anymore.
Even branded frames cracks. If you want a better deal add a few thousand bucks like 8 thousand more and get another cracking frame but with a warranty like KHS.

pirated dvds = illegal pirated bike frames = legal? this frame should be banned everywhere. sooner or later there will be a casualty if this frame keeps on selling.

Sorry but Santa Cruz doesn't own a trademark here. It is not illegal for another company to use and sell products bearing their mark. Santa Cruz haven't paid the government to protect their trademark (more or less Php1200-1500 will have your trademark protected for a company their size) www.ipophil.gov.ph/tmsearch/For the cause of casualties ... improper use of equipment, if you use a fake frame for aggressive riding then you have a serious problem ... and "breakage" is not exclusive to imitation frames and/or aggressive riding, just ask Kevin on how his road driven mtb broke.

after all has been said and done (in four pages of postings on the pros and mostly cons of buying a sinuperlight) it all boils down now to "CAVEAT EMPTOR" (buyers beware or something to that effect) if the buyer so decides in purchasing the japeks sta creus, then he should therefore take the risk of his decision. i know this will be an unending cycle of postings ;D, what is this my nth post but i guess the message should come across eh if only for everyone's safety.

One of our co-riders here in Southwoods have that Frame, it seems there's nothing wrong with the frame coz he will use it only on the road as commuter bike not on trails or any aggressive ride.
The problem he encountered, ...
He cannot balance the rear wheel, what I mean, he cannot put it on the center, his wheel is well balanced, the frame is the problem.
He returned the frame, mabuti pinalitan, so the conclusion here is the frames geometry is not consistent, may correct, may wrong, swertihan lang.

Most of the Peeps here didn't gave the frame justice... ;D Its a FS frame but its intended for plain XC and a lighter rider (i think). Anyway, it's up to the buyer. Again, I know a biker who used this frame for week end trail ridding (and its a abusive one) and yet the frame stood up all the beatings that he's thrown on the frame. Maybe, he's quite lucky .

Why even give the frame justice? It's a piece of junk considering all the other alternatives available. This frame is intended for some unsuspecting buyer who might end up getting hurt financially and physically. You're better off on a reliable hardtail.

@ boredmdmtber,
Yap, you're right... there are better HT alternatives out there. But if one wants to buy it, then why not. We can give our inputs but in the end the buyers are the one's that will make the final call. Again, based on the experience of our fellow PMTBikers the negative experiences exceeded those positive ones.

If somebody is foolish enough to buy this frame so be it. It's their money and body. This shouldn't even be called a replica but rather a poorly made imitation.

If I am the producer of this Frame, I'd rather have my own Brand and registerered it. Ex. santa Maria, San Pedro, San Pablo, San Judas hehehheheh, then ask RC to evaluate and Review it.

The joke is on somebody who buys this frame thinking it's the real thing. So if you're looking into buying this piece of @#$% frame and you've been able to read more than a hundred posts on this topic then I hope you've learned it's NOT.

So if there's still someone out there who is foolhardy enough to get this frame........................ April Fools!!!!! And as Kulitog has mentioned before, Quality goes hand in hand with Consistency. That sort of logic is undeniable. Why ride something that is the equivalent of Russian roulette on wheels?

buying Branded frames:
> Crack your frame, they will replace it, kasama sa bayad ang WARRANTY, SUPPORT that's why it cost more. > More RIde Hours. > Peace of mind, less stress mahimbing ang tulog more sleep
buying Fake Frames:
> No one else to blame but yourself the buyer. > injury waiting to happen > Crack your frame, then whack it in your hard head that never learns!
