Last weekend I had an opportunity to be with my fiance and her family for a weekend reflection on the Lenten season at Paete, Laguna. It was my first time to visit this part of Laguna and was really excited to again feel the life in a small town. We visited the church to hear mass and watch the "SALUBONG" the yearly procession or life like sized statues which re-enacts the passion of Christ. It is much anticipated by the locals and tourist alike. The following morning which was Good Friday we headed out to the picturesque mountain to called Tatlong Cruz, where literally, 3 crossed stand erect watching over the town of Paete. It was a good 6-7km of paved road from the lowlands. How I wish I brought my rig... the decent must be awesome! But it was not what I was there for. As I was told, it was a sacred spot to visit during the season and it was designated as a tourist destination and yes, I we drove up the mountain side I could see people walking in devotion towards the top. I am of course, astounded by the devotion of such a small town. But much to my dismay... when we have reached the "sacred site"... I could not imagine how this place would look like in 2 or 3 years. Sad, noh? If there is anybody in this forum from Paete, I think you should inform your local officials before its too late. There is still time.

Good point.... if it only happens during the holy week then I think the disposal of waste can be manageable at that exact time. But sad to say and see, there is plastic wraps, cups, glass bottles and cans and a lot of non-biodegradable materials. And I bet that they either burn the trash on-site further contribution to air pollution and green house effect or bury it, again most of the filth are non-biodegradable. My thinking is if it only happens once a year then why can we not prevent it from happening? If your friend owns that lot, mountain or that place then he should try to protect that area. Its really beautiful up there... minus the filth. my two centavos
