I was able to join a MACADAC organized Holy Week trek to Mt. Apo in 1992. We took the Kidapawan route. The locals say that there are other less known trails up the mountain (Magpet? Israel? can't remember the names). Even had a chance to spot a Philippine Eagle in the wild! Lake Venado is unique!
After the climb, I binged on inihaw na panga and bihod downed with cold Pale Pilsen. Awesome! The restaurant is called Luz(?). I wonder if its still there.
Next time I'll try those succulent meats in your pics jtoms!
Guys, Davao is MTB, trekking and inuman heaven!

Great shots brad! I especially like the Mt. Apo shot... you can almost feel the subdued glow of the sun push past the confines of the monitor and fill the room. The bihod sounds great too.

*sigh* spent my highschool & college years in davao and never had a chance to climb Mt. Apo, and just when we're organizing things up it was closed down.
Someday I guess... my wife & I vowed to visit her....someday.

i guess there are times that they allowed it for climbing. i guess, just have to tap local groups for any update when will this be open. if you'll be in davao, perhaps you could ask habagat store at sm. they know the schedules for climbs

Old trails a long gone. I know a lot of regulars who climb there, its just now that we have kids its not that easy, to pack up hit the trails. Now packing instead of the usual bike helmet, hydration packs,tent....it'll be baby carrier, feeding bottles, bulks of diapers, & strollers hehehe

If I can go back to Davao, the next mountain in my "To Do" list is Apo Segunda. I just don't know kung nabuksan na ng MACADAC ang bundok na ito.
In other parts of Mindanao, Mt. Matutum, Mt. Kalatungan and Mt. Hibok-Hibok are also in my "To Do" list.

More on Mt. Apo. We used to enjoy the breathtaking view of our Majestic backdrop on our way home to the South (Matina) , Specially on sunset where city lights starts to glow while Mt.Apo silently diffusses to darkness. Nowadays this scene is just messed up with the gigantic billboards and signage forever altering what used to be breathaking -backdrop of Davao Mt. Apo Clutter McApo "Summer Colors of Love"
