How to Lower the National Budget (Really!)

Why is it that everytime the issue of budget cuts and austerity comes up, only the Executive Branch goes thru the wringer?

Every year Department heads appear before the Senators and Congressmen to plead for their agency budgets. BUT WHO REGULATES THE BUDGET OF THE SENATE & LOWER HOUSE?

If the government wants to reduce its expenses, WHY NOT REDUCE THE NUMBER OF CONGRESSMEN?

How many Reps are there? 200+ right? But do we really need that many if, (as they brag in their campaigns) they're the best choice for your vote? For such a small country,we have too many legislators!

Modify the law that equates the number of Congressmen to population size. Dapat one congressman na lang for every province. And stop sub-dividing/creating new provinces just to create new fiefdoms for politicians allied with Malacanang.

My province, Batangas has 4 congressmen because it has 4 districts. But do we really need 4 people to advance the common interests of Batanguenos? I don't think so. Isang magaling at matapat na Batangueno lang ang kailangan mo. Same is true for other provinces.

Try this: Read the papers and watch the news. How many politicians are really active, author sensible laws or are at least sensibly vocal in current issues? How many names are always there? Twenty? Probably.

Where are the rest? Remember, they too receive and enjoy the perks that Antonio Abaya enumerated in his article.

brad not to mention the gas of all the escorts of these politicians.

1 congressman = about 3 or 4 SUV's? give or take a motorcycle or two. don't forget a car or two to be used "for official use also".

I remember they were trying to pass a bill about some kinf of funeral or memorial benefit for all members and maybe next of kin yata. There was a segment from Pugad Baboy saying it is OK as long as mamatay na silang lahat.( All of them die) ;D ;D

nasa european tour ang mga beloved congressman/congresswoman + their beloved wife/husband and girlfriends/boyfriends and mga kabit/secritary.
as per expenses:

$ 500.00 a day allowances
$ 500.00 a day for hotel accomodation
$ 200.00 a day for food allowances
$ 5,000.00 for first class/business class airfare with the 2 countrys of destination.
$ 2,000.00 for travel/shopping allowance

my holy gosh!, where's that money came from for the 40 congressman? + 4 senators:

in short their is no de-quorom when the bills is for approval in upper/lower house of our
beloved politicians....

grand total as reported around P50 million budget for the said travel, heheheheh grrrrrreerrrrrr!!!

the said rental for the staff office ( why rent a house if he has an office inside the batasan complex) cost : P 25,000 a month
4 suv's an explorer, toyota grandia, 2008 honda civic, pajero with 3 bodyguards per car!
2 units of aircon split type are operational 24hrs a day....
and take note only 2 staff lady's are working kuno! inside his rented mansion.

glockbiker: it's the first time in our history of the banana republic to bring those 40 congressman and 4 senators, politician in a non business trip of our beloved la presidentia gloria----(the only work they done for the president is to applause the contract signing on both parties the spaniards and the english)------
yes, indeed and i presumed they already do some shopping in madrid, then in london! bloody hell!!!
