My name is Eric Reyes, know as essworks to the PinoyMTBiker community...
For some years now, I have made claims to the members & friends of the Firefly Brigade that I was sick with cancer.
Today I come forward to admit that this is a complete & utter lie.
My motives for doing so are undeniably selfish & self-centered. I did so to take advantage of one person’s sentiment… I ended up violating everyone’s trust. No amount of explanation can truly justify the deception I created. I can only offer my utmost & deepest apologies to each & every one of you.
I know my words will have no worth or meaning to any of you after this. No amount of apologies or regret on my part can take out the stench of the deception & lies I made… indeed nothing will be enough.
I have lost the privilege of your trust & friendship. Every living day for me now is marked by the stigma of humiliation & shame… an unending embarrassment for a camaraderie abused.
I have lost the privilege to be a part of this noble forum and my behavior can only be ruled by striking my name from the membership roster.
I truly am sorry. I bid you all goodbye.
Eric Reyes

The problem with this is that it become very difficult to believe the lie from the truth.
But I guess we are all guilty of the same and for most of the time we find forgiveness... I could not see why we could not give the same.
And if you tell me that this is the truth, then I believe you and forgive you my brother.
Now lets' RIDE.

I just learned about this thread / revelation from knobbyist and wheeler earlier today
To Eric via friends: a sad event but hey , not that it counts for much, I as a simple forum member forgive you and I hope you have forgiven yourself, sir Eric
Im sure a lot if not most forum members still want to ride with you
Ride safe

i remember you. you're the guy who'd wear a full face helmet and pants on XC rides.
hmmm....nothing wrong with lying. everybody does it. depends on the kind of lie i guess. with this one, i dont see why we cant forgive you not unless you took money or anything (that's a different story altogether, hehe).
come to think of it, why dont you tell us your story so we can understand you better.

Bobby, you said it. "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone..." Lez ride! the exact words J.C. said to the mob who was about to cast stones at Mary Magdalene. ... and then he rode his bicycle back to Nazareth. This is blasphemy. Judas was a rider too.

I don'tknow him nor have any recollections of riding out with him but I've heard stories about his "condition" then. Which has moved and inspired me. But personally, I believe that WHY he did it no longer matters. At this point, we may have lost a brother and now we must find him like the story of the lost sheep or if you may, the prodigal son. It takes courage and self conviction to speak out the truth. I can only imagine the pain, guilt and grief he feels right now and that is enough reason why we should be supportive of him.

like some of the posts here, i am honestly shocked by this revelation. it really sucks when you've been inspired by someone & then all of a sudden that person turns out to be, well, less than what you really thought of him to be... but i've already learned about the dangers of "putting-someone-in-a-pedestal" a long, long time ago. as to why eric chose to lie, i would just take his word for it: "My motives for doing so are undeniably selfish & self-centered. I did so to take advantage of one person’s sentiment" as to why he chose to come out, perhaps the season (lenten, that is) has got something to do with it. i got fond memories of riding with eric & though this revelation has somewhat "tainted" his reputation, i choose to remember him as the good natured fellow who's likable & always ready to help. i'd like to thank ICE for sharing this quote in an early post. i think it's also appropriate in this occasion: "Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain; but it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving." -- Dale CarnegieGod bless you, brad. Hope to still see & ride with you again. "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit."
- Psalm 34:18 (New American Standard Bible)

My message to the young people who are getting "confusing/contradicting" feelings about the situation (as I do)... It is NOT okay to lie. It hurts the people who matters to you the most. As much as I'm very curious as to what's going on Eric's mind, and ask him to explain in detail (while treating the whole PinoyMTBiker community to dinner before we even start to think of forgiving him...) I believe we should just leave him be, for a while. At this point in time, Eric might need some time to think, to take stock, to deal with, maybe not cancer, but the pain he is undergoing, and the pain that pushed him into living the lie in the 1st place. To err is human, to forgive... divine. I believe that also. Having the guts to own up his doing, and deleting his own account in this forum, was the noblest thing to do, I guess. So, on the account of that dinner treat coming up, I'm almost ready to forgive him. (I love italian dish, btw.)
