Last week while on my way home from Paranaque, I was driving along the South Super Hi-way. As I approached the SSHW- Buendia intersection, the traffic light turned yellow, as my speed was not slow enough to make me stop without being "alanganin", I drove through the intersection and stopped at the next one (Malugay). Sure enough, a Makati Traffic lespu was there and flagged me down. He asked to look at my license and said that I didn't stop at the yellow light. I said in the nicest voice I could manage while looking for my license "sir, it was a yellow light, not red". He still insisted that I should have stopped. I handed over my license still trying talk him out of writing me a ticket. Big mistake. To cut a long story short, he gave me a ticket, and lo and behold, the ticket indicated that my offense was "disobeying traffic sign, not stopping at RED LIGHT"
When I saw what was written there, I told him that the light was not red but yellow, and guess what, he said "red na po yun". GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! To make matters worse, I had to go to JP Rizal to claim my license and pay 500, I wasted half a day for this. What really irks me is that I try my best to follow traffic rules, I stop at all the stoplights even if its midnight and there are no other cars in sight. And then this happens, arrrrghhhh!!!!!!!
So my advice is if you know that you are right and did not break any traffic rules, never hand over your license.

Nasty... there are no courts here to detest traffic tickets. Good you gave us a heads-up. Too bad it had to be you though.

best you should have done was offer him 200 bucks (or less). save you the time and money on reclaiming your drivers license. yeah it's all bullocks but better to work the system than to follow the rules and get screwed.

i heard somewhere that you can contest a traffic citation and it almost always gets overturned though you'd be spending more time for it. anyone experienced this?

had the same experience , different intersection. corners of Ayala and Buendia. Outcome was different. The traffic enforcer marked Reckless driving (beating the red light), tried to dispute but it seems that these folks do not know what theyre doing.
Had to pay 2K to get my license. I was hoping to relay the incident to someone higher than the yellow boys but was unable to.

I thought yellow means speed up ;D ;D ;D. No really that's bad you should have a court that you be able contest the ticket. Even you loss you still have good feeling fighting for your rights. I would say it was a good thing you didn’t give him the money because will promote more corruption. Probably he also ruins his day because he didn’t collect the lagay ;D ;D.

Or be ready for some name dropping..."You know General so and so? He's my neighbor!" ... or a calling card of some military or lespu bigwig... these things sometimes work. You know naman, these enforcers and traffic lespu are not an intelligent bunch.
but of course, the quick payoff with an etneb or tapwe will do the trick in lesser time. keep ur ube and ninoy at bay muna...
then again, i heard of some hardy traffic lespu who can't be bought...he makes offenders do some "jogging" around their vehicles or pushups.

actually from what I know yellow means caution. so in other countries they still go on with the yellow lights. actually my friend got his suv smashed up in the US coz he stopped on yellow lights, the traffic enforcer asked him why he was stopping at a yellow light.
I think beating the yellow light is not an offense technically, it becomes an offense "if" the enforcer does not know what are the rules and regulations about the traffice lights.
BTW, if MMDA has in their website a form which you can download if you feel that you did not violate the traffice regulation.

Yes, lets not encourage corruption here,In my case, If I'm flagged down, I'll check 1st if the lespu has no motorcycle and the there's no traffice ahead then I speed away.

We were once flagged down at the corner of Edsa and Ayala Ave. for turning right on a red light. We were indeed wrong, but then, the traffic enforcer did not follow "traffic citations protocol" (or whatever they call it): he didn't introduce himself to us. (i think first step should have been for him to state his name) my sister brought this up with him, and lo and behold, he let us go! try it on your next (hopefully, never!) traffic citation. it just might work! hehehe.
BTW Mich, i had the same experience at that same location (were you flagged down at the intersection by Aling Nene's bbq???) it was a lady cop naman. she was stricter than my HS English teacher! i didnt bother arguing with her anymore, i just got my ticket and let my dad handle it afterwards.

re: yellow light... i think it's ok to run the yellow light if you think you can clear the intersection before the red turns on..tama ba? according to my sis even in the states magulo rin...there are areas that you can't run the yellow light...youl'll get a ticket for it...i dont know kung maniniwala ako...she failed several times before she was able to get her driving license hehehe! ;D

Tolits, i don't have the least clue with regard to the "protocol" in apprehending motorists. as i said, it was my sister who talked to the cop.
It worked for us then, so it might work for others, too.
What is the connection of my post to my father being a "lespu general"?

Why is it whenever law enforcers stop me for any road infraction, I don't have to bribe...I don't have to speed away...or I don't even have to bother explaining? After the law officer sizes my face...jaw all squared away and eyes kinda bloodshot because of hardship sustained during my Marine Corps years...he executes a snappy salute...I salute back...and we silently part ways. This happens everytime. I still have to be issued a ticket.
I guess...I am still one with the establishment...noh?

Yellow means cuation..you can proceed but with cuation but dont stop. You will see lots of yellow flashing lights here for crosswalk. Still lots of driver runs through red light and cause lots of intersection accident. Now, a days they are putting camera on the intersection, as soon as the red is on and your car is in the middle of the intersection you will get photograph with your face and front/rear license plate. The ticket you will receive through the mail.

Let's just get rid of the yellow light and use the countdown timer instead.....like the one in Roxas Blvd. near Aristocrat(sarap chicken bbq).
