... the more you receive..
before....
..besides "creating a budget", "giving to charity" is another alien concept to me and most general public who have a hard time making ends meet sa meager paychecks..
after doing lots of research on financial literacy and practicing what i learned (living within your means, "paying yourself" etc etc).. i would like to give a try on this.
for others (Christians, etc), they call it tithing.. some, call it giving to charity. maybe not yet 10% but not lower that %% prolly.. as that is what I think I could start on...
now the Q is.. What legal orgs do you suggest to that I try this principle on?
i'm looking at:
the children's hour UNICEF's spark hope (Starbucks has this)
hmm... your inputs are highly appreciated.

sis, depends on what you believe urgently needs financial support. some people believe education is the key to poverty, so they give to UNESCO. some naman are moved by medical conditions, so they give to cancer patients or those who need surgery. some naman are forward-looking and want to leave a better place for their children, so they support environmental causes. lahat naman yan can use support, depends on what tugs at you hardest. we can also give time, not only money. google Hands-on Manila, a network of organizations and volunteers. you can do stuff like read stories to kids at a cancer ward, help in cleaning up at the Manila Zoo, etc. whenever you're available. maganda yan, sis. more power to you

I saw my cousin buy sangkatutak na tsinelas at divisoria she has this great idea of keeping a bunch of them in the car Daily , when street beggars ( yung bata )knock on the car windows sa traffic, they get...ninja turtle slippers! Kahit simple lang , old toys , donating blood , or giving half of that burger your eating to the starving kid on the street. Anything that will get you into the "giving " mode Kasi once you start , automatic and tuloy tuloy na yan it makes me feel a lot better eases my conscience joke

try world vision, for only P15 a day or P450 a month, you can change a child's life. world vision is an international christian child-focused NGO. it has been helping poor filipino children since 1957. at present more than 110,000 children nationwide are under the care of world vision. world vision is accountable, it carefully monitors and review programs and costs, and uses donations for their intended purposs. it strives to keep its overhead rate low. world vision is motivated by faith. by faith in Jesus Christ. world vision workers serve the poor as a demonstration of God's unconditional love for all people. it does not discriminate. it serves the world's poor regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender. its programs revolve around sponsorship. a child is given his basic needs to be able to go to school. other programs include lobbying for child protection, health (anti-TB campaign, aids, etc.), disaster relief and housing www.worldvision.org.ph or call 372-7777 i worked for world vision as a land & housing coordinator for 3 years before i was sent to afghanistan. came back last year and now work for them as a consultant. i've been to the project areas in surigao, zamboanga, davao, cebu, bohol and palawan, i can attest to how this NGO had changed the lives of children

We all practice charity in one way or another... may it be a bank check, a few centavos, old clothes, piece of bread etc, etc.... What is important is you have shared your blessing not only with the less fotunate but with humanity. On another note, financial means is not always the best way. If it was up to me, I choose to GIVE BLOOD. It is a very expensive commodity in the health care industry and not too may Filipnos practice blood letting. Hence, both the private and public health care sectors suffer from this loss. In my experince, I have seen mothers die because their children would be too afraid to donate their own blood. Is it so hard to choose between your own pain and comfort when your mothers life is at stake? So my suggestion is if you really want to give... GIVE BLOOD!www.redcross.org.ph/

... the more you receive.. <snipped> after doing lots of research on financial literacy and practicing what i learned (living within your means, "paying yourself" etc etc).. i would like to give a try on this. dear feline13, Here's my 2cents. I suggest you try the principle of charity at home, where your families and friends are. There are times when somebody needed shoulder to cry on. There are times when somebody needed blood donation. There are times when somebody needed help in emergency situations. There are times when somebody needed understanding, thoughtfulness, sacrifice. Charity does not mean monetary or material things. If you have money to burn, then by all means send it to your favorite institution. Or you can try the casino or lotto, whose proceeds go to PCSO. That's charity too. But any institution run by private or corporate individuals requires overhead. Use your mathematics and you will discover that monetary donations do NOT go a long way. If you gave away slippers, or distribute food directly to recipients or donate blood or become a teacher... ... THAT goes a long way.

hehe also if u wana die early, try donating all ur blood. if u wanna die! On the contrary, anak, blood donors live forever (in the hearts of the recipient). Scientifically speaking, donors literally live longer than the statistics. Why? Reason number 1. Qualified donors are healthy. You cannot donate if you're a carrier or have symptoms (or borderline) diabetes, hepatitis, and whatever-itis... Reason number 2. Qualified donors stay healthy. You cannot donate if you're stressed, "puyat" (deprived of sleep) and had too much "workout" the week prior to donation. ;D Reason number 3. Rejuvenation. I am one of those lucky ones in this world who have friends and relatives that are willing donors. When my wifey was in emergency room giving birth to our 1st baby, one phone call and all these angels came as quick as light to save a life or 2. You know what? I made all these people godparents to my kid when she came out fine! Hi Ninong Mondy! You're the greatest!
