I USED TO BIKE TO WORK.I STOPPED DOING IT A FEW MONTHS BACK.I USUALLY PARK AND LOCK MY BIKE ON ONE OF THE CORNERS AT THE BASEMENT PARKING IN THE BUILDING(TECHNO PLAZA ONE,EASTWOOD LIBIS)SAME AS WHAT OTHER BIKERS DO WHO GO TO OFFICE IN THE SAME BUILDING.THERE ARE AT LEAST 12-15 PEOPLE WHO BIKES TO WORK REGULARLY INCLUDING THE CEO OF THE COMPANY I WORK FOR(I THINK HE'S TAIWANESE AND HE USES A "GI-NIANT" FS BIKE,HE USES IT AS A MEANS OF TRANSPO BEC.HE LIVES NEAR EASTWOOD)ANYWAYS.I THOUGHT TO MYSELF,WE WILL DEFINITELEY BENEFIT FROM A BIKE RACK.WE CAN REQUEST ONE FROM THE BUILDING ADMIN.GET OTHER RIDERS TO SIGN UP THE PETITION BUT AT THE BACK OF MIND"MOST LIKELY THEY'RE GONNA ASK SOMETHING IN RETURN".JUST LAST TUESDAY(MAR 1)WHEN I DELIVERED MY OFFICEMATES NEWLY BUILT BIKE,I SAW THAT THERE WAS A BIKE RACK INSTALLED ALREADY(DUNNO HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN THERE)A REAL NICE ONE.IT WAS ON THE SAME CORNER AND CAN ACCOMODATE UP TO 15 BIKES I THINK.SO WHATS THE CATCH?20 FREAKING BUCKS FOR PARKING.I MEAN,WHAT THE HELL!!!I GUESS PARKING IS NOW A FULL BLOWN BUSINESS HERE.ANOTHER THING IS THAT THEY HAVE THIS BIKE RACK BUT WHEN YOU RIDE YOUR BIKE AT EASTWOOD,MOST OF THE GUARDS WILL STOP YOU AND TELL YOU THAT ITS NOT ALLOWED!W.T.F.!!!W.T.F.!!!!EASTWOOD SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!

juboy, i sympathize.... on one hand we want the bicycle to be recognized as a legitimate means of transport. di ba nakakainis pag nakabike ka lang dumating sa isang establishment, wala silang parking na maibigay pero sa tsikot meron? just a couple of weeks ago nainis ako kasi kakain sana kami sa Pancake House sa katipunan and when we started chaining our bikes sa railing na nasa harap ng store, binawalan kami. sabi ko e san nyo kami gusto mag-park, dyan? (sabay turo sa empty car parking slot). actually, gusto ko nga sanang gawin. iparada ang bisikleta namin sa car slots. i mean, kung dumating kami dun na naka-tsikot, we can claim that space no questions asked di ba. e customer din naman kami. on the other hand, if our bikes are treated as a means of transport nga, then we have to be willing to pay for parking (if car owners pay for it too). wala lang, something to think about... anyway sa eastwood pwede raw ang pets pero bawal ang bikes. (e kung yung bike mo ang pet mo kaya?) someone posted this once in the firefly egroup: nagbike kami minsan for breakfast there tapos pinara kami ng guard sabi: "sir bawal ho ang bike dito". Well I can't blame him for stopping us because it was "utos ng management" so after breakfast we went to the management of Eastwood and asked A LOT of questions. Heres a few facts that came out of it: 1. Bawal ang Bicycle 2. Pwede ang scooter, motorcycle, bigbike, tricycle, and any morotized gizmo pwera bicycle 3. Pwede magjogging, walking, skipping, hopping, jogging backwards, crossover step, sumayaw, at magcartwheel sa kalsada, atbp... pero bawal magbicycle BAKIT? May tinamaan daw na cyclista ng falling debris at kinasuhan nya ang eastwood If that is so then di ko rin masisi ang eastwood kasi ignorant talaga ung management about cycling in general so to solve the solution they took the easy way out and banned bicycles altogether.

but hoping for the best ,it should be resolved.they shouldnt even be hosting events like the north face race, san mig light enduro race and the likes if they dont like bikes roaming around .it's just that i dont find any logic of providing a bike rack(charging 20 bucks for it) yet its not allowed to ride the bike around the place .dumbest thing ever .ill try to get in touch with the eastwood admin.maybe it can be worked out or something, like allow only riders wearing a helmet or something.it needs to be resolved!!!

For my opinion they (eastwood management) sees bikes as a lowly form of transpo or might reason out that its a poor man's transpo or they are thinking that bikes is an eyesore compared to scooters or motorbikes that should not be allowed in a high class area .

maybe Sen. Pia Cayetano should do something about this..... she's a biker also.... she is in the position maybe she'll be a big help if ever we'll have a petition regarding on bike matters, such as bike lanes, bike parkings... etc.....

This is very true. Most Filipinos sees bike as a poor mans transpo. And to think we are one of the poorest contry in the world

Hmmm... that's not good. Here in states they incourrage you to ride your bike or carpool to work and give incentive like ($15 -$30) a month.

STYX - that's good to hear, that you observe ethical riding when on the road. one thing that's making it hard to lobby for recognizing the bicycle as a legit means of transport is that people think bikers are just a nuisance on the road, that they are there to play. bikes being confiscated at EDSA? this is bad news. as far as i know, you can bike in any public road (after all your taxes paid for those roads too) as long there's no minimum speed limit (like, obviously you can't bike in the expressways). maybe there's another reason for the confiscation (smoke-belching? haha). one of our members at firefly bikes to work everyday, and he passes thru EDSA from congressional to monumento. going back, he even takes the short distance towards north expressway and then up the quirino ave flyover to novaliches. (interestingly, this new flyover has a bike lane, or whatever it is, basta there's a white line about 2 meters from the wall and that's the lane he takes). so far, he hasn't been apprehended. JENMAI and i have biked along ayala once, at night. we weren't apprehended naman, baka swerte lang. the makati cops on motorcyle even chatted with us at a red light. but those buses are scary, so we walked our bikes on the sidewalk when we could. isn't it good that there are cops on bikes in makati now? at least that's a small step. it shows that the makati government recognizes the bike as a means of transport too.

I was not able to confirm this, but my cousin told me that she saw the MMDA gathered those who were in bikes in EDSA. I think that was last week. I told her that there is no public road where bikes are prohibited- including EDSA. Maybe they don't have helmets? Do we have a means of confirming if this is true?

Yes yes so sorry that some roads in the Fort is off limits to riders. But I assure you that this was done not as to look down upon the bicycle as a poor man's vehicle but more of a safety measure. Specially the bridge that connects the fort to Buendia.....sorry but bikers do not or should I say really have no business riding that stretch of road. It's dangerous not just to the cyclist but also to the motorist.
Whoopi --- the white lane you see on the bridge, they are not bike lanes.
