It feels awkward to post this in a forum filled with non-motorized two wheel mode of transport advocates and practitioners. But i'll do it anyway coz i might solicit or learn something
I'm lookin' to buy a 100/125/150cc scooter (not an “underbone” type like the Honda XRM, Wave or the small 50/70cc chappys like the Yamaha Jog or Honda Dio) More like the Euro/Italian inspired but Taiwan/China made brands like Sym, Kymco, Sinski, Jonway etc.. The Vespas, Beta Arks, Aprilias, Piaggios and the like are out of the question, unless there's a really good deal.
I just need a decent city ride. As much as i love cycling and mountain bikes, i need one for practical reasons and to get my fix. Motorbikes/scooters are my first love - been riding motorbikes since high-school and all throughout college and i only stopped when i started driving a car eventually (which i don't really do nowadays). Two wheels, motorized or not, is where it's at!
Any other scooter lovers here? Not really into big bikes
Baka you or someone you know is selling one. Hook me up please. Budget is 50k below (no bike upgrades in the near future for me tsk) Gusto ko talaga is Sym or Kymco.

KYMCO (Kwang Yang Motor) & SYM are chinese motor brand manufactured in taiwan, according to my motorcycle/ scooter enthusiast friend. and can go like 40Kms/Liter of regular gasoline on a city driving speed....(well most scooters as well) i would suggest that you visit http:www.motorcyclephilippines.com and try to read some forums regarding the motor brand that you want. they also have buy and sell section there.

Very timely topic In the SEA region I think we have the least number of motorcycles compared to Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. Incidentally we are also the slowest growing economy Also, If every commuter would switch to riding motorcycles then I think these jeepneys and buses would eventually free up Metro Manila streets

What's your SYM model neil? i'm on the lookout for a jet alpha or euro sana. i'm just a bit curious why you let go of a Sym and went for wingstar (haven't really heard much 'bout this brand unlike say sinski, jonway or motorstar) d'ya buy your scoots second-hand or brand new? isang dilemma ko kasi is to whether buy a brand new china-made scooter or hunt for 2nd hand but good quality taiwan, japan or italina-made (asa pa!) machines. My preferences btw are the Kymco topboy or Dink, Sinski tornado/blade aside from the Sym jet thanks

i use to have a suzuki SS100 or Frontier 100cc. I think its locally manufactured dito or CBU???
Ang hirap ng pyesa, sa pasig na ko pumunta a simple brake lever would take 2 weeks bago dumating.
But its got good power and handling. Pang street talaga.
DIO nagkaroon din kaya lang unregistered have to ditch it as well.
Yung SYM shark ang popular sa scooter. 60k yata brand new,

If you fancy the italians, your 50k budget can get some decent 2nd hand units. I'm sellin my beta ark for only 40k. Some vespa's can be had for 50k if your lucky..

You can buy a brand new Honda Monkey 50cc for about P70k. A Beta ark is also a cool alternative. Being an off road scooter, you can use it to play support for mtbikers!!

My preferences btw are the Kymco topboy or Dink, Sinski tornado/blade aside from the Sym jet for kymco,i would go for dink(maxi-scooter)... for sym,i would only go for shark and fighter(sport scooter)... for sinski,None...friend got very very bad experinece.now his selling it but i suggest go for yamaha mio 4 stroke 113cc for practicality.you can have it at 35-40k (reposses units) directly at yamaha distributors.some units were months old only with low mileage. pros-easy to tune -fuel efficient -easy to pimp. -cheap maintainance parts and accessories are available nationwide. -and its from yamaha, maker of R1 and R6. cons- sakit lang sa pwet ng upuan sa umpisa!but you will adapt just like saddle of your bikes. only my opinion

since gasoline is reaching at P50+ per liter.. motor bikes is the best alternative mode of transportation for long distance for 1 to two persons..(off course bike is still the BEST). guys if you planning to get one...I SUGGEST get the "well known brand" like honda, suzuki, yamaha, or kawasaki (parts are from japan but mostly assembled in phil...somewhere in Laguna technopark) OVER taiwan and china BRAND/made bikes... i love motorbikes second to my mountain bike...and i do street drag race before .... weve'd run a MOTORBIKE shops and this is the everyday concerned of the customer...AVAILABILITY OF PARTS!!! those "well known brand" are well tested brand and after sales and parts are available (mostly available on dealers or get on any spare parts store in 10th avenue in caloocan just a few block near lrt monumento...availability of spare parts for taiwan/china made bikes are hard to find...so if your bike fails or have trouble its very hard to find replacement parts at competetive prices and in time constraint also... ..MOSTLY these are the problem we encountered on our motor bike shop ...so many taiwan/china bikes failed to run after a yr or even less..so BETTER to take with well know brand you can get "well known branded" one for less than 50k on 2nd hand motrbike of up to 150cc (except for slightly used raider150 coz i think its selling price if 2nd hand will be 55k - 65k depends on the year purchase and upgrades....but mostly honda can be bought at less than 50k... mostly available at ebay.com.ph or visit http:www.motorcyclephilippines.com or even in 10th avenue in caloocan there are many motorbike store there selling 2nd hand motor bike... hope this help for our bros planning to get motorbikes... ;D

i heard a rumor way back.. that they are releasing four strokes so far it's been years since i was last updated... btw.. don't you find it a bit hard leaning Monsters? I have always felt Jap bikes are more flickable.. though i find the Dukes have better mid range power and the sound of Dukes... nice...

Sir buy something that has already a very good reputation in the market like Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda or Kawasaki. I am not biased with other bikes particulary those manufactured in China. But I've experienced owning a Honda, Yamaha compared to other China made bikes which my friends, colleagues testimonials and feedbacks are not that good.
Within your budget try to consider also your weight. Because if you're too heavy and you'll buy a decent Yamaha, Honda, etc but the model isn't fit to your weight, chances are you'll experience more problems.
SYM is a good brand (I used to own a Magic 110) as your choices is within their models SYM Jet. But the newer models of Jet right now is soo expensive like the Jet Euro which pegs around 80+k. There is another model they released I think the model if "Fighter?" It's a 125cc that costs around 60-70k.
My suggestion try to assess first or even ask for a test drive from motorcycle dealers, Im sure they will entertain you if you're willing to purchase one. Just like g.b.b mentioned try also visiting motorcyclephilippines website and learm more about the bike you want to buy.
Just in case you still have questions you can directly PM me, I'm more than willing to help you with your choices.
Ride safe
