and I mean car tires. my pick-up was getting temperamental so had to change her tires (there goes my bugdet for a new SRAM RD! )
at the tire shop, they offered signifcant discount for the new set of tires (almost 1k per tire), then free balancing, mounting etc. when the mechanic was balancing the tires, he said there was something wrong with the rim and it needed to be fixed. something like it was out of true or something. they said they could fix it quickly, and it would cost 1,200 pesos per rim. thinking might as well have everything fixed, sige I had them do it.
pero my dad and i felt kind of suspicious with this. they brought the tires to the back to be fixed, and I was wondering why with all their other machines out front, this one was at the back. also, i kept note of how many mechanics were in the shop and it seemed they were all out front, it appeared no one was realy working on the tire.
when they finally brought out the tire, my dad promptly checked out the backroom . . . turned out it was just a storage room. no machine, no nothing, no actual work was done. my dad nearly punched the mechanic.
one of my friend tells me this appears to be a common thing when you buy tires. they give you significant discount then hustle you for some 'repair.' so this may happen in other tire shops as well. (the shop i went to is Christine Tire Sales along West Ave, QC)
so ingat kayo when you get new tires. if they say may sira, tell 'em you'll have it done another day. then bring it to your trusted mechanic for proper diagnostic kung may sira nga talaga.
also, i realize din you should really value people you trust, lalo na mechanics (bike or car). kaya ako i tip generously if my bike mechanic did a lot of work on my bike
