Hello po...
I am thinking of converting my wife's bike to a single speeder. mainly because shifting is too technical for her, anyway, her bike is now set to 32:18 and she dont mind if she is going uphill, in flats or downhill, she just pedals and if it becomes hard for her, she just happily pushes the bike to the top...
Another reason is that the acera shifter on her bike is not working very smoothly making it hard for her to appreciate the shifting...
Thirdly, it will definitely shave some weight off her bike...she's very new to biking, learned how to bike at the age of 41, 6 mths ago...only does bike park on pasyal pace and no off-road...
Her bike is a Rocket Bomb with RockShox Pilot fork and generic wheelset...
I will be fitting her bike with Dabomb cogs and tensioner but I dont know if I can use my extra XT 9speed chain...
Do I need to buy an specific chain for this set-up?
Appreciate your help...TIA

Hi, the existing chain, or the XT 9sp chain, should do the job nicely Are you doing the conversion yourself, or will a shop do it? Post pics when done!

Duude... consider getting a new shifter (maybe LX). Unless you are doing mostly flat stuff, introducing a new rider into mountainbiking by having her riding a singlespeed up hills may not be the best way to keep her into the sport (unless she has great fitness from another sport like running)...

sir flipnidaho, thanks for the suggestion, appreciate it. this is for my wife's bike, pasyal pace only, around 16-20kmh. she enjoys it naman and yes mostly flats and wil never do off-road...she is also getting stronger, before she pushes the bike on all the uphills but now she's able to climb most of it...and on 32:18 set-up...she only does 35 to 40 km rides on weekends...thanks...

The XT chain will do. It can withstand the torque that your wife will put on the drive train .

35-40km at one go is pretty good on a singlespeed! if she keeps it up she might become stronger then you hehe sir flipnidaho, thanks for the suggestion, appreciate it. this is for my wife's bike, pasyal pace only, around 16-20kmh. she enjoys it naman and yes mostly flats and wil never do off-road...she is also getting stronger, before she pushes the bike on all the uphills but now she's able to climb most of it...and on 32:18 set-up...she only does 35 to 40 km rides on weekends...thanks...

that's great considering a female will pedalled the singlespeed bike, yeah this will surely change her mode in biking (to pasyal mode to halimaw mode)
