went SSing with Baboinsky Sunday morning. bumped into Noel and company who were doing reverse palace. how was it guys? Nice ride. we did the reverse upak and took our time talking about bikes. Unfortunately Baboinsky got a flat. so we spent about an hour fixing it. went through a patch and two tubes before we got it right. im not p*ssed off about the flat- hey it happens. im not pissed off about the fact that it took us that many attempts to get it fixed. hey that happens too! wouldnt be the first time. Good company naman and we were beside a carinderia. what P1SSES me off though was a group of about six bikers passed us without asking if we were okay or needed help. we did not even get a " good morning" from these people. what makes it even worse is the fact that they swung back and hung out in the carinderia we were at. Still no offer to help. one guy did approach from the group and asked: "flat kayo?". OBVIOUS BA?!!!!!!! i post this here because you SSers are my brethren you guys would understand. you would always offer to help out a downed biker. It is our culture. its in our nature. its that simple. he needs tools sure. he needs a patch, sure. if he's cramping and needs water - o ba! or some power gel, sure, not that expensive anyway. if he needs a tube- just pay it forward. beats having walking out. do unto others right? no these guys werent people on high end bikes. these people were on mid range hard tails. its not a rich guy thing. no these werent newbies. these guys were kitted out, looked experienced enough. its not a newbie thing. If they were roadies i would understand- its not in their nature. but these guys were MTBers. so i say to you fellow P.I.S.Sers: WTF?!!!!!!! me, im normally a nice smiley guy, greeting everyone on the road. this group, I didnt even want to look at them. partly from anger and partly from shame that a fellow mtber could be so uncaring. if you are reading this, and you were one of those people who didnt ask if we needed help. I hope you never have the same situation happen to you. *shakes head and ends rant*

oh man, sorry to hear that.
hopefully this is a remote occurence. I know 99% of riders would stop and ask if everything is alright - especially in popular trails where the riders are 'familiar' with each other.
You and PA are the most happy-go-lucky and chilled out riders I've had the honor of riding with.
by the way - was this on PA's 29er? If he wants, I can lend him a tire...

Jay easyyyy ang puso mo! ;D
I've been riding in Sta Rosa since 02 and this was first time I've been on the receiving end of a cold shoulder. I do hope that is a remote incident and it's still comforting to know that the friendly bikers outnumber the snobs.
In fairness to them, they greeted us with the usual good morning but they didn't offer any assistance or even bothered to slow down. Mahiya naman kayo pati roadies nadamay nanaman tsk tsk tsk.... ;d ;d
Agu: Thanks for the offer. Something sharp sliced through my single ply rear tire but it's still ok. Besides, there's a bunch of new wtb 29er tires that I want to try out hehehe. ;d I'm also ordering a thicker set of tires from mannito.

Sorry to hear about your experience cherrybomber. I agree with agu, this type of trail behaviour is rare. I also had a flat this weekend, on a very popular trail, and every rider stopped or asked if I needed anything. Good trail etiquette still exists for the majority of riders, one bad incident won't taint the rest of us mtbers.

Been riding for a quit sometime now. MTB rider seems have this bonding. Some riders wont say Hello on parking lot but on the trail the attitude are different. Mostly greated each other and willing to give help if needed. Very rear indeed.. the worst thing is kapwa Pinoy .

Honestly what's the point on ranting about this? From my perspective, as long as this guys didn't do you any harm everything is OKEY. Failure to be acknowledged by a fellow biker is not really an issue, they might be too preoccupied to notice or they assumed they already come across you during the rides. But I read here someone did asked you if you had a flat. Easy with the rant CB, being a good natured like you said you are should have initiated the greeting. And please let's not go into the price of bikes...roadies...or try to make yourself different since your riding SS. We all ride. If we're not greeted in return... just keep on pedaling.

maybe they thought you guys had it covered? I mean, I think most riders would stop if you're alone, but since they see you're a group then they thought probably you guys didn't need any help anymore. How were they to know that it's taken you 30mins or so to fix the flat? Most riders would see you fixing the flat and assume it's a minor problem and go on their merry way,

cherrybomberYou know what you are? You are an idealist. Nothing wrong there per se. After all, you are espousing a good ethic for MTBikers. That's well and good. In fact, I'd appreciate meeting someone like you on the trails if I ever get into trouble. Save the rant. Maybe dehins pa nila na-i-imbibe yung ideals mo. Give them time. You can't change people overnight anyway. They'll learn about it sooner or later and if they have enough sense, they will be proactive din. Relax!

I always ask ANYONE on the trail if they're OK or if they need any help and most of the time I don't even have tools with me ;D. Roadies do tend to be more snobby, but I ask and offer help as well on the road. Very disappointing to hear that and you're right, it shouldn't happen in our mountain biking tribe. Pare next year AF1 tayo! ;D

Hey Jay, too bad to hear that... But looking on the other side of the fence... Maybe those guys got the impression/thought that you are expert/pro bikers and fixing flats is not an issue. Not to mention you're riding singlespeed... Maybe they still got the heart of a MTBiker that's why they turn around but feel shy or doesn't know how to offer their help... Maybe they just used the wrong words of "flat ba kayo?" instead of "need any help?"... These are all maybe's but who knows? ... take it easy and put on your usual smile pare...ride safe
