Singlespeed cyclo-cross worlds to Portland First there were mountain bike singlespeed world championships. Now cyclo-crossers will get their own version. The Portland Single Speed Collective announced it will host the inaugural Singlespeed Cyclo-cross World Championships in conjunction with a Cross Crusade event on November 11-12. Day one will include a qualifying time trial, possibly the first cyclo-cross time trial ever attempted. Time bonuses will be given for "sketchy aero bar descending", fastest saddle-less lap, fastest saddle-less lap while on aero bars, fastest steep hill climb, and best six-pack bunny hopping. Day is the Grand Boucle of Singlespeed 'cross, a 60-minute race around the notorious Estacada Bowl. One woman and one man will be crowned Singlespeed Cyclo-cross World Champion. king, how was it racing with cyclocross ss bikes? with skinny tires and a low position on the bike, did they have difficulty riding in the tampines terrain?

4 of the 5 ahead of me in the SS/CX cat were on cyclocross bikes, so i guess they didn't hve any trouble ! the guy who finished first was on a CX singlespeed too so he was the real king of the category. there weren't a lot of rocky portions so tire size wasn't that big of an issue, plus with their larger diameter tires, heavier gearing (and gears!) they had a huge advantage over the flat sections. the thin tires were also probably better in the mud as well. generally, i think they were also much fitter then most of the singlespeed mountain bikers were. Basically after the start of the race, i didn't see any of the CX riders again, except for one guy who must have had a mechanical early on and overtook me in the second lap.
