just keep riding SS. it will get easier (and more fun). pretty soon, you'll be making it up further on the climbs.

Just keep on pedaling If you want off-the-bike exercises, try doing body-weight squats (also known as prison squats), try to do 20 squats in 20 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds, then try to do as much squats as you can in another 20 secs, then rest for 10. Try to do 8 sets of 20 seconds each. This type of training is called the Tabata protocol, and is used by speed skaters. This helps build up tolerance to lactic acid build up.

I'll be trying these out. Since I don't have the budget yet to build a dedicated ss rig, I'm really tempted to devolve my fs bike into a ss. Thing is, it's in the best set-up it's ever been. Well, maybe because I haven't been shifting. Hehehe.

Yup, you can simulate SSing on your FS rig for the time being, then save up for a dedicated frame and scour the classifieds for good deals on parts. If you have access to a gym, or have a set of dumbbells at home, try these exercises from Menshealth.com.ph: www.menshealth.com.ph/fitness/15min/200509.htmlSSing is also a mental game - aside from pushing yourself past your pain threshold (if needed), you need to be able to anticipate terrain changes, changing soil conditions (dry to mud to loamy to grassy - which affects traction). Focusing on the path of least resistance, especially uphill. Learning to minimize unnecessary braking, etc. it's also about your positioning, body english and weight distribution (which all affect traction) The more you ride, the sharper your mind will be.
