Contrary to popular belief there is no prerequisite to the manual even if you hear from other riders you need to know how to wheelie first. There is no direct skill linked with manual except the catwalk. (Wheelie standing up).
One important prerequisite though is a fair knowledge on how to setup your front tire geometry and familiarity with your own body.
Setup the front because you need a short stem for a long fork or vice versa. Ability to balance the weight distribution in the front end is important. It is more important to have a balance front end than a short chainstay.
Manualing also is a lot better with a higher BB than a low BB long chainstay bike. Manualing on a sputnik is a lot easier than on an xlr8-r.
BTW learn to manual at low speed, you'll be a lot better rider I assure you. Speed is needed if you want to fake a manual, because you'll never learn your balance point for other manual applications, ie for rhythm sections etc.
Important tip from someone who still can't manula long enough: Its not pulling on the bars but unweighing your feet forward. Pull the bike bellow you going forward let it slip like your on top of a rug and someone pulls it infront of you.

Why is his right foot off the pedal, is this a bail midway?

Good foot off the pedal seems like a bail, almost good though.

also do bunnyhops (the pushing and pulling part) it builds up the upper body for the manual.
I've done some chamba moves and it's better to learn with somenone..(like patrick hehe)
