Any bike will do for trials, the more trials specific the frame is the more better you will progress.
Ideal size is anything that will hold the BB. lets say 1 inch but that is impossible so get the shortest seat tube you can get and more or else 22 inch top tube. The longer your bike the better it will be.
Vision is good for street. For trials better get something with a higher BB something that will be atleast at level with your hubs, unless of course if your perception of trials is Ryan Leech type of riding then it will do because you'll be running suspension.
also rear tire clearance : maximum anything that will fit atleast 2.35 on a wide rim.

I would suggest getting a Kona pahoehoe like Konablacks, it affordable and has good geometry. If your leaning towards street then you could get a scrap bike frame or a grenade.
Remember that dirtjump and trials dont mix in terms of geometry (long/short), just street/dirt, street/trials, you may want it to be on the light side for faster progression for trials. or better yet get an STP a nice all arounder.

pat, there's a new trials freak in UP and he's using a vision frame. and he's only in grade seven! remember where we played when you were in UP? we were there this morning with sir BC, sir bans, and martin. the kid certainly shows alot of potential, being able to lurch up the platform and do endo 180 exits. certainly an entertaining playmate for you to have. he goes by the username 'vans5sesyon2' on the 43 site.

cool.
Joes maybe you can take a picture of his setup so we can help unknown.
Plus I heard from Archie (streets guy who I see at baywalk every NR) that its good for street. (Vision)
BTW Low BB : high bunnyhop, high BB : stable on a lurch

About frames...all I can say is what wadesingson told me "I you're going to buy a part, be committed on using it for 3 years..." something like that...
So be sure on what part to buy or use, for it will be an upgrade virus you'll be dealing with hehehe
My frame (kona pahoehoe) I just trimmed the seatpost part and my cutting skills sucks hehehe, I'll trim it again! It's great and strong too, I've been using it for about since I was in Second year at college about 2003-2004...
