wicked lunatics, What keeps you downhilling? My roadie friends asking me same old question why can't i get rid of this kid's game??? Most of my batchmates in this nasty habit are now mostly bald, politicians, XCers, baddicts, pokers, dressed in long sleeves match with reading glasses. I got 2 of the cutest roadbikes around but always ready my TLDs on the weekend, dressed for the kill!!! AAARRRGGG Why can't i move on? Why can't you move on? Is it the gap jump that cause us sleepless nights? or the snapped pedal that stripped away a podium finish? What keeps me thinking too is people i see pushing their "big bikes" are same old faces. It frustrates me to see/hear fresh, young and new talents burn out- ex. paolo tan - coz our beloved "age-defying, very dangerous, nasty habit" needs them to go on....I'm worried

It's the adrenaline rush that I loved the most... It fuels my passion to ride on and hit big... I had 2 dislocated clavicles already... ;D

ouch...baddicts ;D its habit forming..... strapping-up and bombing down is very addictive, it unleashes your inner-demons .... and during certain point in my life it was some strange way to check if i was still human..... ;D ;D the youngblood also ask me what keeps me riding? i just answer: " riding unleashes my inner demons, its therapy"... they just look at me and.... DUH ;D Downhill is like getting a pilot's license... at first you'll crash n burn then once you get the hang of everything you'll start flying, a downhill bike + gear +hospital bills is still cheaper than a pilot's license... ;D hahaha and yes everybody gets a piece of whats coming their way, gravity will always take its toll once inawhile in this sport ..... i fractured my life! ;D and papa erwin .. everybody is a little kid inside even at 40 ;D peace!

"Downhill is like getting a pilot's license... at first you'll crash n burn then once you get the hang of everything you'll start flying, a downhill bike + gear +hospital bills is still cheaper than a pilot's license... ;D"Buds, Very well said... I myself had spent one time in Boracay (I mean Hospital) after a crash. It's better there since we're taken care-off by white ladies (nurses and doctors) ;D. By the way, had you talked to Eman (you're buddy before, now based in Cebu)? He was planning to invite you for a show over in the Queen City of the south .

i can't say that i'm good at DH, more of a beginner's beginner actually, but what makes me stick to trying to learn DH is the high level of skill required and the lunacy of doing DH perfectly carving that berm, getting some "relatively" big air on that jump and having the ear to ear grin after you've done the puppy's trail at tagaytay makes me want to come back for more!

wicked boys, What keeps you downhilling? My roadie friends asking me same old question why can't i get rid of this kid's game??? Most of my batchmates in this nasty habit are now mostly bald, politicians, XCers, baddicts, pokers, dressed in long sleeves match with reading glassess. It frustrates me to see/hear fresh, young and new talents burn out- ex. paolo tan - coz our beloved "age-defying, very dangerous, nasty habit" needs them to go on....I'm worried What keeps me riding is the feeling of leaving everything behind. It's almost poetic having to put on my helmet & goggles - like putting a mask on so that no one else in the world would recognize you as you're riding along. Most people regard riding bikes as kid's play - be it DH, FR, XC, DJ or AM. (It's actually very odd the XCers you know think you DHing is kid's play...) Maybe it is, but who said you have to stop riding just because they're more associated with kids. I could say the same thing for basketball, or badminton or even ultimate frisbee, can't I? The way I see it, if you like doing it & you're not hurting anyone, why stop? I bet you more than half of the people out there think it's a kid's game because they simply can't do it. Sucks for them...

DH as i experienced was freedom and camaraderie.. from riding down the trails of tagaytay and montalban to beating the clock at different race course in the philippines... everything in it is worthwhile... im a architect off the saddle, with dress to kill attire and nice pen.. but at weekends... its fullface helmet goggles and knee pads!! ive been burn out several times... did some street riding and XC but i still came back to DH.. its weird to say that riding get rids of my stress from work.. especially when i crash, as if some bad chi evaporated.. dont know what!! hehehe its more than just downhilling.. but riding itself.. finding those unique lines and pulling it, wether splash board drop or just doing manuals in the streets of makati ... WHAT KEEPS YOU DOWNHILLING?? i say to you, its all about the ride and who you ride with!!! ;D

downhill racing is Fun and at same time dangerous, you take the risk all or nothing
searching for the perfect run on illusionary lines daw?
requires your physical and mental powers, in 4 or the most 5 minutes.
Food for the mind and body, like drugs that is addictive, or a religion that you worship every sunday.
Maybe, you will still see me in the masters executive class after ? years hehehehe

"Kid's game..." is just an alibi... (this is on the jump & drop thing only) we all know they can't do what we're or you're doin', right? Not every one that can pedal knows how to do jump & drop. Let's just look at this on a lighter side (no offense po)... we're kids & they are chickens... and its also the other way around, they are kids & we're chickens ;D... Again, pardon me... I used to ride and race XC and road before but completely changed my decipline when I 1st tried trail riding (single tracks... mountain on one side and cliff on the other). From then on, I was stinged by pure adrenaline and proceeded into freeride & downhill...

hey guys, if it's going to be mtb vs. roadie, or unicyclist vs. the selecta ice cream rider mudfest we're going into let me tell you now with all courtesy and humility that here is one forum member who won't stand for it. the online forum maybe idly boring these days but this sure is no way to liven things up. you know the thing about sweeping generalizations done over a forum is so easy to do yet difficult to erase. it's ok to post but do it with a sense of responsibility. you really have to understand where guys like yetiman, rocketman, extendead, redneb and all the rest who have really shown passion for mtb are coming from. never mind that they love their dh riding like mistresses on full moon's night. these guys earned their respect. respect, dig? and if it isn't clear to most of us, the actual riding is done out there, not here, so just go out and shut up and ride!

No Sir... what I mean on my comment is only for the jump & drop thing... nothing else. Since these are usually the activities of the younger generation - hot blooded teens. Those roadies/XC & even spectators now were also flyin' w/ their BMX during their younger years. Not every body who can pedal has the guts to do these things... even myself don't have a drive to jump as what the others here can do. Personally, I am also a chicken in our pro standards ;D.
By the way, had modified my previous post to clear things. Again pardon me for the earlier comment w/c is not clear. I have a great respect to all pedaling disciplines.
Happy & Safe riding...

lloyd, i understand where you're coming from...we all passionate in what we do...and we carry certain pride with it ....we dont want anyone saying bad about our sport dont we?...trials, xc'ers dh'ers, roadies alike...we dont wanna do that either coz, that would make us no different from those narrow minded roadies i've seen some kick ass mtbikers that are now roadies (even in US pro), roadies that are now mtbikers...not to mention the guys who do both...and some dumb president too (according to them ;D) we do what we do, not for anything but i believe it suit us most...most of the bad comments i believe were results of ignorance to each others sport...either road, XC or DH, the top players of these sports, here and abroad, i believe are all disciplined and extra ordinary athletes worthy of our admirations and respect. i deleted my previous post.

Our looks... with full battle gears and together with our beloved rigs are a head turner... some will admire and some will not... nevertheless, it's the ride, adrenaline rush and most of all the camaraderie that do keep the spirit inside burning and make us beg for more...
