;D what's your crank length on your DH bike?
all rules in geometry and ergonomics is not followed/waived in DH.
I'm 5'11 should be using a medium frame, but i am using an undersized frame dh bike (small), looks funny on me but i like it. and it's lighter and can control it.
for my crank length, If XC for 5'11 i should be using 175 mm for leverage, (archimedes principle).
but this is down hill.
im using 170mm, but i sometimes it is hit by rocks and dirt on the trail,
also gets hit when i turn leaning the bike.
bb height is 14 when seated and using platfroms pedals. and 42 teeth.
i am now now cosidering switching to 165 mm.
it lessens your leverage, so will switch also to a 40t or 38t.

Before 165mm...it was good if your going all down hill. Now I use Hone cranks 170mm...i little bit better as we have a little uphill on our race courses it suits me better getting more leverage than muscling a 165mm crank....

not really - its actually a function of the BB height. a 14inch BB height can get away with 175 to 170 mm cranks without bashing.

sorry peak 3 - i cant ride gnarly DH trails at speed. am probably as slow as a glacier and dont know what your talking about. maybe you could help me set up my bikes. better yet, you could show me how to ride the tagaytay trails - maybe i could learn something from a guy who can ride biten and grotto at speed. am not used to the trails there eh. thats why i dont know what i am talking about.
specially the rock gardens. ride naman tayo some time. guide mo naman ako sa tagaytay and show me how to ride it at speed.

rocketman, how much sag do you run on your rear shock? you might be riding it low into the travel hence the bashing?

165, 170, 175 ...what 's 5 cm eh?! BB height becomes a major factor the longer your crank arms are. Assuming the DH Terrain has ruts and stepups.. which is 90% of the time Reymond wadesingson is a speed demon DH Novice already FYI Of course if we are talking about breakneck speed down a DH trail ... only stupid folks want to break their necks Im a poser but I can tough it out as long as there are no drops >4ft..and no mean rocks at the landing po ! heheheh I just love to "bikesurf" ..my term for slow downhill over loose clayloam soil ...sarap! easy to eject na fulfilling to complete pa!
