i guess any true definition of downhill is simple: carrying speed over some really techincal stuff. the real question is if the rider can overcome their shortfall both in skill and cojones (balls).
i'm way out of form, but i doubt i was ever any good at it at the first place. cut my teeth on the tagaytay trails, practiced a couple of maarat races but never competed, more out of fear of getting hurt rather than anything else.
it's all about the pull of gravity for me... and flowing. being able to link up sections that you could not do before is the greatest feeling in the world.
i really doubt i'll be able to survive the world cup stuff without another trip to the hospital (yes, i've been there because of some foolish bravado--- and it wasn't even sick or big stuff).
finally, i think i've chosen the DH route because of the people and their easy going attitude. once they get to smell the gravity induced adrenaline on you, they take you in and call you one of the fold--- regardless of whether you hit that eight foot gap that they do with ease.
the greatest assest of the DH crowd is that some are able to keep it real, meaning admitting that the 'go big or go home' and 'life's too short not to go big' slogans are really dangerous creedo's to live by. if you've got the skill and the balls, then by all means hit the step up or nail that drop with the sketchy receiver. the rest of us will just gaze, drop-jawed in amazement--- and hopefully learn in the process.

easy to find. park at villa dionisia which is after taal vista and the archway.. most of the trails are rideable from there. kinda tough to go without company since you can really get lost. also good to have the number of the dude for the shuttle back uphill

downside of tags trail (not really) is the fare of jeepney from laurel batangas that will shuttle you back to tags.
back in 2001 the fare is P500, now is P800, who says we are not affected with oil price hike hehehehe.
If ever planning to ride tags trails, at least /minimun 8 riders to share jeepney fare 100 each.

peachy, this is how its done pinoy style, (part of pinoy mtb culture), hehehe.
1 wheel, front or rear wheel of the bike is taken off (usually the QRs over the thru ax) and positioned upside down on the passenger seats, the bike handle bars and a wheel resting on top of the seat.
arranged alternately side by side, if the first upsidedown bike, the fork is on your left hand, the next upsidedown bike, fork should be on the right hand, due to the handle bars.
cranks rotated to avoid pedals hitting the frame next to it,
others rider will strap their shin or elbow guards on the precious fork stanchions. to protect it from dings and scratches.
Local term for this is "kamada" of bike inside the jeep.
after the bikes, the riders will occupy the reamaining of the seat, 3 on each seat x 2 = 6 riders, and smell each others stink hehehe.
the other 2 will seat at the front beside the driver,
sometimes riders can seat on jeepney flooring.
and if there are too many riders (10 to 15 riders), and their budget is only for 1 jeep, others will top load the bikes
Its like, after your downhill run, when it's time to go up on the first part, enjoy the off road jeepney riding ala WRC, hehehe
sticky hair, and dust covered like espasol,
from laurel batangeas, it takes hours for you to return back to tags, compared to your 30 minute or so dh run.
only in the Philippines hehehe

funny i know people who bring goggles not for the ride down but for the ride up in the jeepney!
watch out for nails sticking out of the jeepney around head level. the nails are supposed to be there to hold the electical wiring in place. very rude awakening if you fall asleep and hit your head.
strangely you also you tend to get cramps getting out of the jeep after such crowded conditions.

holy @#$%! u guys really suffer for your passion.
what about shuttling on your own w/ friends... say 3 guys w/ 3 vehicles capable of holding 3 bikes and 3 passengers. 2 complete runs and the 3rd guy is the pick-up vehicle. u guys don't do this?
speaking of shuttle vehicle... my crv just got side swipped by another car. @#$%!

who would want to go hassle themselves by bringing a car/suv/pickup and drive for hours on very rough roads and ALONE?? i dont think that is a better choice than what we do here in tagaytay... taking a jeep equals a cheaper, hassle-free ride plus everyone gets to ride! why risk ur own vehicle, pay much more for gas and go down a mountain ALONE when u can save money, time and hassle by taking a jeep! plus u get to help the locals by giving them a business! just like what nonong jeepney driver has right now! its a win-win situation! we get to have fun and somebody else earns from it...
we dont suffer for our passion! its actually the easy route up! if u want to suffer then push or ride ur bike all the way back to tagaytay... thats suffering... not sitting on a jeepney laughing w friends
