Mga brad,
We are all in-love with gravity riding, racing or not. Me and the "guru" Ricky montelibano were the 1st guys racing dh representing manila. Kaputukan ng mt.bike nun. Arjuna is just a 14 yr.old kid then, rigid M2 pa,takot pa sa lusong. Bender is just a kid that hangs-out in cartimar. We are very saddened by the rift of some of the "dudes"nowadays regarding racing. It got so big that things were blown out of proportions. Let all be calm sit-down and talk about it. The "old guys" are willing to mediate.Let's keep the passion burning.

two issues surfaced during the last race in baguio:
1. down grading of the pros to novice, and novice to beginners. 2. Race format, best of two heats and averaging
1. yes there is no written rules about it but, but we all know who are the dh pros, In the last taytay drop zone race, joseph (hans gee) he registered as novice he reasoned out he stop biking but he was not allowed by the organizers, he raced pro. In baguio caloy (hans gee) was allowed to race as novice on the basis he have not yet placed in the pro category, there was only open category in the earlier dh races, guess this is a race organizer's decision,
2. Race format, just because it rain hard that afternoon, some pro riders suggested to use average of two heats, joey barba protested because he was the best time of first heat. Average? kalokohan, 2 race format lang sa DH, best of two heats, at yung UCI format seeding tapos final run. good thing an "old guard" was present" (arjuna).
I suggest a point system for the pros? Whoever has the highest points at the end of the season will be dh rider of the year.

It's just my opinion I wanna share; If Caloy was entered as a novice, that would be the fault of the race organiser who based their categories on rankings and not skills. Caloy is my friend since 1995 and I know his skill is at par with the pros. In a way, I think, that somehow the organisers were right about him - not having won any pro races... it's a standard procedure to start at a lower level. Don't get me wrong, but Caloy was there to race... he didn't even uttered a word about that decision... and it's his passion for sport that brought him to that level of skills. If there's anyone to blame, it's those people who are in position to impose politics on this sport - the organiser. They think that Caloy is a threat to the pro. I may be wrong, but that's a theory to ponder... I'm just saying. [/glow]

Nah... misinterpreted man... he's posing his face (look clearly, It's not his middle finger). I post his picture to show how biking should be enjoyed and I didn't mention you in my comment at all... why should it bother you?
I'm just pointing out the the other side of the story... no pun intended. Offending someone is not my style man.
Let's make this clear - This site is open to all comments about our views intended to keep our biking aficionados aware of the events and improvements that our organization is trying to achieve. Criticizing is a healthy part of providing better awareness, doing away with the flaws and implying improvements, as long as it makes sense. Alright?

yetiman:
the ugly taste in the mouth right now is that the dh community is getting polarized (kanya-kanya) for whatever reason. i hope it gets settled, if not right away then in the long run, where this thing in Baguio will eventually become just a blur in the memory.

i think, arjuna's has a point, but the manner that he displays offended so many riders including beginners like us. we appreciate what they have than for the community in the past, and we are gratefull for that. but, please. be a good example to every newbie out there. if someone's raising a point or concern about something. please let us all be civil and discuss it without bad-mouthing anyone.
and besides, the ukay riders decided that the race is on average format right from the beginning. i wish that they respected what the organizers decision.
man they worked they're hearts out for this race, and welcomes us with open arms. atleast, cooperate with them.
nice work nuy, aky, mark, brian and the rest of the ukay riders. hope that this won't be the last peace ya'all..!!!!!

Yes, arjuna does have a point, the attitude displayed was not called for, but definitely appreciated by me because he stood alone on this one. i was not present at the race, but by knowing the folks for a long time, it was pretty common knowledge that something was not going right.
DH racing is supposed to be the fastest time down the course, period. averaging is definitely not DH racing, i salute the Ukay riders on this one heavily but it seems the wrong idea/notion was given to them. "organizers and some pro agreed to the average system" key words, some pro agreed!!!! right there and then it shouldn't be valid.
When Erwin and Lolo Ricky started this, i'm sure they've envisioned this industry boom, but not this direction.
All forums talks about how to better the situation so our countrymen can be internationally competitive, this situation i'm afraid is a major setback!!! malaking dagok sa sarili!!!
When it boils down to it, is the responsible one (maybe more) for this mess willing to accept responsibility??? i will vouch for arjuna right now, if it's his wrong doing, he will definitely fess up to it, for the most that knows him, you know what i mean.
Please get rid of the politics!!! Erwin and Ricky is willing to hear this out, let's make it work!!

can't say that i'm privy to the details of all that transpired during the last "controversial race" as i'm not really part of the competitive DH community and just get to hear stuff from the grapevine. i don't have the privilege of fully knowing the history of the local DH scene either but i have to agree with fattire's and puregutz's comments. and here's hoping na maayos na lahat sa lalong madaling panahon

so for upcoming dh races, race format should be clearly printed on the posters, or before the organizers release the first dh rider and it should be agreed by all, (racers and organizers).
i agree this must be settled/closed as soon as possible, before the next next dh race turns to a boxing match.
Old guards, please help standardize local dh races.
;Dfor the meantime, back to freeriding.

last night the community invited every MTB group around to sit down and talk about the issues and concerns of the riders about the scene right now.
i wasn't able to go, it's far from where i live, i think it's in Cafe briton at the podium. I hope these issues were resolved and let us all get along. we need to work together for the survival of the sport and support each other.
We probably don't know arjuna very well, and probably his action only shows how much passion he got for the sport.Judging him was unfair, he meant well.
i only hope that, we respect each other, smile if we saw a rider on the street, help out when someone is in need of a tire lever, Pump or any fixin', and ride
now, let us all kiss and make up.
