i use Shimano 647 DX Pedals. has a cage. i use my trail shoes (Exustar) with the cleats recessed so i could still manage to walk the trail or stick a foot out and kick without slipping.
its not redundant naman sir to unclip and step on the cage. i unclip when tackling intersections, downhill slippery trails, ruts, roots... my feet are positioned more forwarded so as not to engage clipping in.

just for info guys bicycling top 7 clipless pedals "If you're building a new bike, your local bike shop might present an overwhelming number of choices for pedals. Or, if your bike already has pedals, and you want to upgrade, you might not know what will work best for you. Pedals are your power connection to the bike, so you've got to get it right! Here are my top picks for pedals" (From: Kevin Weiss, Your Guide to Bicycling) 1) Time ATAC Carbon 2) Crank Brothers Eggbeaters 3) Shimano PD-M959 4) Speedplay Zero Titanium 5) Speedplay X/2 6) LOOK PP 357 7) LOOK CX 7

to clip or not to clip. personaly flat cause i dont know how to clip. i fi learn to clip thats when i decide. hopefully learn to clip soon. "tangal paa" sucks. my platform always hits my shin on the same scars. i like the idea of pedaling in full circle. years of using clip will make me learn. did you watch oakley race jump competition. the trick is take of the clip in the air put it back before you land. coach! idol!

yup i totally agree - Clipless or Platform - your bike just got to have one. i just can't imagine a bike without pedals - unless if it's motorized ;D ;D ;D but one thing that i would like to see is a rider with clipless pedal on one foot and platform on the other does anybody by chance - happened to see this already ;D ;D ;D

There are wide range of riders, places, trails, choices and preference...
hopefully in the future, somebody would be able to develop a one-pedal-do-it-all design....hahaha ;D ;D ;D

yup i recall seeing a local rider using one clip and a flat at the same time... i think it was mike borja... but can't really remember... i also remember Arjuna Saolo in his last dh days, uses clipless pedals but the other is not screwed in the crank arm and he finsihed the race.... though having problems in removing the pedal from his shoe after the race...

im just wondering why do they call it clipless when there is actually a clip to hold the shoe to the pedal? wouldnt it be better understood if it was a called a clip pedal? rather than a clipless pedal? or clipless is a shorter term for something else?

Basically the new design took out toeclips, hence the name clipless. Although gym bikes still use toeclips nowadays... ;D

the term clip pedals refers to strap pedals, the straps are attached to the pedals. this is also known as toe clip pedals. This was common before among road bike racers. when people start using the term clipless pedals, this point to the adsence of strap on the pedals, not on the mechanism used in clipless pedals. although clipless pedals was first invented way back 1895 by charles hanson, the modern clipless pedal was introduced by Cinelli in 1971. but the design had some problem, the rider is literally locked on the pedals. 1984, is the advent of first practical pedal introduced by LOOK(French company). LOOK applied downhill snow skiing binding or cleat technology to the pedal. Bernard Renault win the TOUR DE FRANCE in 1985 using the new clipless pedals.

yeah it's a funny term. we call it clipless pedal but we often use the term 'clipping in.' well, that's the convention I guess.
