I've been thinking about this lately, what does it take to compete in mtb races?
Is it just "Ok, i have a bike and i feel strong" and then go race! Or does one need a whole team, like a pitcrew or something, and lots of other preparation (besides the physical and bike preparation)?
Just thinking....
AND for the experts/seasoned racers, how did you guys start? Are there any Fun races muna where ultrabeginners can join? hehe.. Thanks thanks!

no need for a team. most dont have one. just make sure you're warmed up and properly hydrated before the race. the giant xc race this sunday (dec 3) has a beginners/fun category. sali na! it's in the divine mercy race track in san mateo rizal (along the road leading up to "the wall" to maarat).

no one is expected to podium on his first attemp although it can be done...just have fun...get the feel of it...racing is lot different from trail riding...you are going to learn a lot from the experience..keeping up with the tempo that you are not used to, your weaknesses etc.
what does it take? hmm...just a decision i guess...pag-aralan mo lang yun track..how many laps and ride it.. then decide.
good luck.

The pit crew is usually comprised of the wife/girlfriend that was dragged along hehehe... Otherwise the usual biking buddies you bike with. Just so there are familiar faces also joining the race. The rest is just fun. trying to go out as fast as you safely can.
If this is your 1st time then the giant xc race on sunday is perfect. Once you've tried it and find out what it takes, I'm sure you'll say "was that it?".
Bring the normal tools you would in a trail ride, lots of hydration and the bravado and willingness to try it out.
A lot of people will be"track reading" tomorrow morning, it will be a opportune time to test the track and see if you can handle it.
See you on Sunday! (if it pushes thru)

Yup, right. I didn't podium on my 1st race, in Batangas City no less, together with my Montalbiker buddies. The winner of our category didn't even ride his bike due to the copious amounts of mud: he carried his bike, on his bare feet, for 7 laps! But I did podium on my 2nd race already Hehehe. If you really want to race, that means A LOT more training. Don't forget, you should have fun too, even though you're racing. If you're not having fun [and by that I mean its also fun to suffer ;D ] then you may lose your drive to race. Just my .02 cents. atty. mike

mike what are they doing about that loose climb that comes out under the bridge? when i passed the track going to maarat this morning, the exit seems to have been bulldozed.

Sport Psychology mode on -
It's best if you think about your goals muna tapos work from there Isipin mo muna whats the MAIN REASON you want to compete .Fun lang? To Win? Mag RP Team ? When yu have identified your reason , than alam mo na how much time , hardwork , money at dedication kailangan mo Obviously the dedication required for racing fr fun and racing for the country/club/barangay is very different. If you know your goals ,then you can plan accordingly
ex.- I dont have the time nor the inclination to train hard Kaya my goal for every race is to physically redline it w/out mentally cracking It doesnt matter if I didnt train or I'm the last to finish basta , my goal is to race to the limit w/ out cracking With that goal , puro mental lang , thaat way , a lazy fat a$$ like me has something to look forward to every race Up to now , I've only done it once ( new balance 10k ) , the other races bumigay either utak or tuhod ko hehe
That will be 5 beers pls

Hahaha! Thanks sir allegra! And to everyone as well. Didnt get to join the Giant race, since it was "too soon" (Sunday na agad?!) So the majority says that it really has to be for fun, and one really does have to have the love for the sport, otherwise bibigay agad. Siguro its just the competitive side in us, the "how far can i go? (or in our case: How FAST can i go?)" thinking. How about the bike pala? Any special consideration/s? Does it have to be "loaded"? And when is the next FUN race? Hehe

What does it take to compete?
You need a muscle...a very big one...I am refering to your heart muscle that has full of passion, determination and the love for the sport... ;D
If you have those, everything just follows...Cheers

training is the key and there's no way around it...you will perform in a race depending on how you train. also, tune your bike..if possible according to what race track youll be racing. may the force be with you!!

DH peeps is all about fun Basagan, booze and pushing ourselves. i'm talkin about the novice but when you reach the expert level, that's where the competition begins. training, skills improvement, bike set up, setting goals and more.
