@ed773 Yes i ride only once a wk and everytime i go back into the saddle it feels like im starting back at zero . I think you have a point i really need a cardio training , i have power to pedal uphill but my lungs is weak . So guys how do you train your cardio vascular system. Once a week is kind of hard. If you dont have trainer or no time to ride on week days, try running. Also since you ride once a week try not to do fast pace as soon you are in the saddle try to gradually increase your pace so the lungs would to over extend or shock.

Yup, I agree with jr. Once a week is not enough to properly increase your cardio.
Here's my past experience (which may not be relevant to your situation):
I also used to bike only once a week. Usually with Team Karma (many of them are strong climbers) and I had to work very hard or risk being the last rider to the top of the climbs. I was always wiped out at the end of our outings. The rest of the week didn't find the opportunity to ride.
Basically, I was a binge exerciser and tried to compensate by over exercising on the 1 day that I did ride my bike. I also felt as if I was starting over every week. Now I ride 3 times a week (road or mtb) and my cardio and strength have both improved. Any type of exercise will help, it's about being consistent.

guys, in case you dont know lots PinoyMTBiker peeps have done it already...in my case it was the time when it was newly graded so near zero ruts. the first time that i've done it was with edmund and the all terra boys together with some guests...you dont want to ride with those peeps i'll tell you...they were pedalling like some trophy would be awarded at the top! ;D then while almost panting to death, there's juboy welcoming you at the top saying "huli ka! bakit naka granny ka?"..huh? ...totally unbelievable!

;D ;D ;D sorry for the OT, GT. to make up for this bad behavior, let me offer a seconding motion to what JR said about breathing. an officemate who is doing yoga told me that the proper way to breathe is slowly and deeply. this way air truly reaches the lungs and not just the diaphragm. get your lungs used to this healthy way of breathing during off-saddle times and see if things get better for you.

Hi Roche, I tried doing that kaso I thought my eyeballs would get sucked inside my skull if I try to breathe slowly while my lungs are screaming fir air hehe I sharply exhale twice instead befoe I inhale a big gulp of air That way I exhale all the air in my lungs and scare my riding buddy at the same time
