Carpal tunnel syndrome and Bursitis are two different injuries.
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. The median nerve controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and fingers. The carpal tunnel is a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand ¾ houses the median nerve and tendons. Sometimes, thickening from irritated tendons or other swelling narrows the tunnel and causes the median nerve to be compressed. The result may be pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, radiating up the arm.
Buristis( from the word brusae"pocket") These small, fluid-filled sacs lubricate and cushion pressure points between your bones and the tendons and muscles near your joints. They help your joints move with ease. Bursitis occurs when one of the bursae becomes inflamed. When inflammation occurs, movement or pressure is painful.
As for treatment, nocturnal(nighttime) splints maybe helpful, anti-imflammatory drugs, physical rehab and surgery as an option.
Bursitis often affects the areas around the joints in your shoulders, elbows or hips. But you can also have bursitis by your knee, heel and even in the base of your big toe. Bursitis pain usually goes away within a week or so with proper treatment, but recurrent flare-ups are common.
Treated with immobilization, pressure relief(do not put too much weight, anti-imflammatory drugs.

brad,
I don't think na RSI or Bursitis problem mo... looks like na yung type ng work mo does not really involve using the full range of motion ng arms and shoulders mo. Try doing some arm and shoulder stretching from time to time.
I had the same problem before, kaya di ako nagtatagal na naka upo and using the computer too long.
Since left handed ka, there are some mouse that are designed for left handed people. You may want to check it out sa nga computer shops.

about stretching and motion ng arms... pag nasa labas lang ako at may installation kami ng mga antennas, cabling, etc... dun lang... pero pag wala at taong bahay ako sa opis or may problema sa mga systems dito ayun maghapon na minsan nakatambay at kaharap ang computer.. and about the mouse pwede naman ipagpalit ang right and left click button sa windows, pero not yet tried on linux.... kaya siguro dapat talaga pag nagkaka-edad ka na from time to time you have to stretch and rest even for 5 minutes ata.... NOTE: the pic i posted hinde yan ang workstation ko ha... dream PC ko yan.... tnx...
