just injecting what i know of this ....... myofascial pain syndrome basically is a defect in the outer covering of the muscle (muscle sheath) it bunches up or constricts around the muscle. bale sinasakal ang muscle mo. many athletes develop this disorder due to straining of the muscle groups for long periods of time or even high stress for short bursts. downhillers at ang mga may lahing kuneho among xc bikers you'll probably notice this along the shoulders, upper and lower back and lower arms. kung nagpapamasahe ka it would be termed as a bukol. sarap ipamasahe diba? kung mawala to, usually the pain sensation goes along with it. glucosamine is a protein compound from the shells of crayfish, crabs and such that is used to treat osteo arthritis. its main goal is rebuilding/revitalizing/reorganizing the cartillagenous components. ( yung mga litid binubuhay ) to help prevent further progression of the disease. it might theoretically be used for it pero di iyan ang kanyang gamit talaga. it would be great for joint pains. pero muscle pains would still be best treated by many kinds of analgesics. e.g. ibuprofen, diclofenac, even aspirin. pero of course with some precautions. pero ang sabi sa amin ng aming sports med consultant ay proper gear e.g. wrist guards, helmets etc. proper posture during the ride.... safety.... ( kung tumalembang ka habang nag ride eh.... alam mo na yun he he) proper post ride cool down, and a massage can really go a long way to prevent pain of this sort.... oh ano may rason ka na magpa sauna he he ;D ;D

mad_doc ang galing you and hingal-aso have been contributing to my enlightenment of this type of pain yes, i believe it's because of wrong posture that i have this pain at a somewhat semi-advanced state. maybe due to long hours in-front of my laptop. so glucosamine wouldn't be of help? my doctor has been giving me painkillers and muscle relaxants for 3 weeks now and i don't seem to get some benefits from them. in fact, tinigil ko na nga...feel ko mas malaking tulong pa ang binibigay ng liniments na ginagamit ko also, i am planning to return to mountain-biking (have not been riding for more than a month already)...naalala ko kasi, the pain level increased when the frequency of my mtbing lessened.

hmmm.... from typing you say? mukhang meron ka na yung tinatawag na CTS or carpal tunnel syndrome. atomik and i had just visited a physical therapist sa hospital for treating his wrist injury from something similar. and basic na treatment for your ailment is to change your posture sa pag gamit ng keyboard. try this.. you can either place a soft pad underneath your wrists as you type para dehins naka bend and wrist mo pataas or put the keyboard on your lap when you type. your choice basta ang importante as close as possible to a relaxed position. then try getting regular breaks. don't do any marathon chatting kasi he he the pain killers that your doctor is giving you will actually treat the symptom of pain pero if you continue with an uncomfortable posture the pain will continue irregardless of how effective the medication will be (glucosamine or otherwise) so i'd suggest you try modifying your habits for a while, try a warm compress on the painful areas for about 20 minutes and basically thats it. note on your pain medications. if its an NSAID or COX2 inhibitor... please have something in your stomach asides from softdrinks or juice or else you might get an ulcer instead !!! more power to the bikers!!

Mabuti na lang at meron tayong legit and very helpful doctor sa board natin. doc, ok lang ba pa-consult online? hehe. baka ulanin ka ng mga iba't-ibang health related na tanong dito.
i myself used to suffer from a milder version of Atomik's wrist ailment (due to jumping and drop-offs). should have gone to the PT early on. pinalipas ko na lang hanggang mag-subside. pero may sensation pa rin. should i take this seriously?
OT sorry doc. got carried away. kala ko online consultation na nga hehe ;D

hey storm its no problem!!! glad that i could help if you are still feeling some of the same sensations... we'll have to see if you have limitations of movement, pain on palpation, inflammations, hmm.... if you're coming with us tom let us see anyway if you have had a similar problem like atomiks my advise to you would also be the same. a little modification in usage, a support brace, and a warm compress for 20 minutes on the affected area should do you lots of good ... pero heto before the ride tom atomik would demonstrate the various exercises that he was taught... something that even i have been guilty of neglecting we always learn a little something each day
