Hey Ted...hope you can allow me to borrow your line ;D
Anybody knows something about headaches related to biking? 2 out of 3 rides I experience this throbbing headache after an mtb ride...be it short or century ride. Usually kinabukasan na nawawala.

gtavalanche, no problem amigo ;D re your headaches, have you been to the doctor lately? don't mean to scare you but it could be related to oxygen and blood supply to your brain. would urge you to visit the doctor soon. any history of migraine? check this site out brad... content.health.msn.com/condition_center/migraines/default.htm

gulli...yes migraines i do have...3 to 5 times a month...but i believe my headaches after an mtb ride is related to blood and oxygen supply to brain as you've mentioned, medyo kinakapos din kasi ako sa hininga pag sumasakit ang ulo ko. hey!!! this means i have to go to the doctor for this one??? scaaary nga!?!?!? what particular doctor/ practice kaya? pwede na ba general md?

Jeever,
yes, a good gen practitioner is a good place to start i think...
dude, it's probably just your migraine acting up, kasi stress, change in elevation, sunlight can trigger a migraine... but it pays to be sure when it comes to your health ;D ;D ;D

gtavalanche20, You are right this contributed of blood circulation and lack of oxygen to the brain. What happen is your heart rate will exceed to your max (168+)in certain period of time. If you have a heart rate monitor you will see the max heart rate. I experienced this couple of times. "Warning" try to avoid this...some people died for this especially those have family history of aneurysm.
OR It could be your helmet is tight.

gulli and jr...thanks for the info....waaaaahhhh...does this mean i can no longer jam up the climbs at a fast rate? what have i to do to control the heart rate while climbing hills on my bike?

Why not brad.. do pacing when you are climbing or training and exercise more to store more oxygen(intervals for 1 hour and 2 to 4 hour of low intensity workout 60 to 70 percent of max effort) by doing these for 3 to 4 weeks will decrease your heart rate ride longer then you can attack those climbs like a goat ;D ;D. Remember the body will react and adjust the training you do.

Pre...pwede rin siguro...isa din possibility yung di ko pag-bike ng mga 1 month. But I've noticed my breathing patterns are a bit stressed, yun bang kahit matindi na ang higop parang kulang pa rin ang hangin intake...see ya sa makiling...hope this weekend we can ride there

O di kaya sobrang higpit ng ng helmet straps mo or masikit mismo helmet mo? sometimes this factors are overlooked but this contribute to this.

Throbbing headache is definitely not a good sign. I never experienced that during biking.
But one time though when I was doing dumbell press at the gym and overloaded the dumbells, and I overexerted to lift them, exceeding my maximum power. I had a throbbing headache that day, but I never experienced that again. It went away after a few days.
Most likely that's an aneurysm -- genetic weakness in blood vessels, when it ruptures you die, but since I'm not a doctor I wouldn't really know for sure ;D I'm not trying to scare you I'm just saying that you should see a doctor.

Preng Marc...nope the helmet is not tight...actually maluwag nga konti ang helmet ko, and my headache strikes mga two hours after the ride...not while I'm biking. Thanks to all who answered this post...nagka-idea ako. So I was reading this article about migraines and found that strenuous exercise like mtbing will actually trigger migraines 2 to 5 hours after the activity. Well, this "thing" won't stop me from biking so I just have to live with it

Jeeves,
you're thinking right sa tingin ko, but go see your doctor to confirm your suspicions....that's their business and they know best. (nag, nag, nag...hehehe)
maybe while you're at it, baka puede mo sila imbitahin mag MTB ;D ;D ;D

guys, just wanna share my experience...i also experienced this kind of headache before...i found out also that aside from the helmet straps and the helmet itself, another cause could be your eyewear....baka yung shades na gamit mo is not fitted to your eyes grade or masyadong masikip naman yung mga frame ng shades mo....hope this helps

guys...this is an update...this weekend i went mtbing. saturday was with max, bikester, radical and some other pinoymtbikers as well as mtbaddicts at muntinlupa trails. sunday i went with allegra and tong of mtbaddicts at the sta rosa trails. guess what...i didn't have the headaches...now i know where they come from. the last time i was climbing hills where i had the headaches i was using the granny and the 4th gear sprocket...this weekend during the uphill climbs i used the lowest gears i could get...and no headeaches!!! I have read in one website that headaches are common to athletes due to over-exertion...they call this the "tension headache". Hope this closes my issue...happy trailing everyone!!! yes, that's over exertion. listen to your body, know your limits. but even then, that headache shouldn't last the whole day, one should be able to recover after a brief rest. safe rides ;D
