I once read in MBAction that having the seat set at the back affect muscles used in pedalling lessening mech. advantage... the best is adjust it and try pedalling a few blocks, where you feel most comfortable that is the correct setting (less effort in pedalling on your part)

san ba dapat yung mas ok na force? sa legs o tuhod? one of my biker friends told me to practice on using both para pag pagod na yung tuhod kunyari, yung legs naman. ang tanung, panu ba yun? The force (i think you are referring to where the pain is felt while pedalling uphill) should always be on the muscles, never on the knee joint... The muscles actively contracting during pedalling are the Quadriceps (front of thigh) and your hamstrings (back of thigh). Of course your calf muscles are also working, so are your core muscles, especially the ones in your lower back and butt. If pain is felt on your knee, it could mean a number of things are wrong, e.g. Wrong bike geometry, injury to your knees, wrong set-up, etc. Question, what do you mean pag pagod na yun tuhod, legs naman? All the components in your legs are meant to work as one during cycling. I don't think you can isolate one particular muscle and use another pag pagod na yun isa. Remember, the only things capable of causing movement in the body are muscles. Joints such as the "tuhod" can only move because the muscles surrounding are contracting.

ndi pala tuhod. legs and binti. i don't think you can pedal with just the use of your "binti." Pedalling uses all your leg joints... From your hips down to your ankles. Maybe your friend was saying "to pedal sitting down first then stand-up when you're tired?"

i may not be right but na-observe ko lang...when the saddle height is low your thigh muscles work harder, when the saddle height is high your leg or binti muscles naman are the ones working harder. so i set my saddle in two ways (and mark them as reference when adjustment is needed), one mark is an inch higher and i use this for long rides and climbing, the lower mark i use for downhill and basic jibbing rides ;o)

wait...angle pala pinag-uusapan and not height ;D well, i like my saddle with the front tilting up a bit, roughly 5 deg front tilting downward is in the attack mode and usually used by riders on long rides and in competitions...front tilting upward setup is usually used by riders who are fond of urban assaults, jibbing, trials, street riding, hmmmm...baka mali na naman ako ah basta, i just setup my saddle where i feel comfortable btw, ease in climbing is achieved by practice, practice, and lots of practice...based on experience lang

angle ng saddle sa crankset sir. kung maganda ung sagad to the front ung saddle o sagad palikod or sa gitna lang. dapat ba pantay sa crankset? forward or back position of the saddle is not standard to all mtbr's sir...this used to be my problem also. fore & aft position of the saddle, as they technically call it, is determined by a number of factors like arm length, torso length, etc. pero ang pinakamadali...loosen the bolt that holds your saddle and mount your bike and make padyak around your neighborhood and see what position is most comfortable for you then re-tighten the bolt Now...to ease your pedalling during climbs...position your butt over the nose of the saddle

Btw, medyo nakakailang at first when the nose of the saddle makes tusok-tusok your butt during climbs...but this is the best way...sabi nila

Napansin ko lang May sweet spot jan na dun ang tamang position ng seat mo On long rides , may position ka sa bike na natural , mas madali ipadyak at may power Just ride lang, mahahalata mona rin if you need to move it forward or backward
I used to do the knee over the pedal axle thing pero I just use that as a starting point

Hey Elokahn...guess what?!? Yesterday I positioned my saddle this way...nearly sagad to the front (about 80%) with the nose of the saddle lowered to about 1" to 1.5" from level position. I did this not because I want to experiment with ease of pedalling but for "wheelie" purposes. Sabi kasi ng kasama ko mas maganda mag-wheelie in this position He was right, sarap nga mag-wheelie with this saddle position....and pedalling uphill or on flat grounds was much easier too...but still you have to position yourself where the nose of the saddle makes tusok-tusok your wewet though ;D

di kung sagad to the front makes you nearer to the handle bar, would it make you comfy kaya pgdating sa dh?

actually kahit anong saddle position or height i don't have a problem...coz i stand pag dh, HT kasi rig ko. But i don't think it would matter for you, coz downhill runs are not that comfortable talaga

;D ;D ;D Actually the saddle's nose making tusok to your wetpu setup will only be used for steep inclines ;o)
