My office is right at the middle of flood-prone streets so i have no choice but to go through flooded streets. What's your take on pedalling through flood? This is much similar with river crossings but i'm not sure if there is a difference with floodwater and clean river

Rip bb and hubs tingin ko dito pag nasubmerged e. Isa pa yung risk na malusot ka sa di mo kita na malalim. Ang linaw pa naman ng kulay ng tubig baha. I hate this season na tag ulan. 😢

May nakapagsabi din sa akin na malakas maka-kalawang ang floodwater. Lalo na yung kulay chokolate.

i have tried pedaling thru waist deep flood waters during habagat using my commuter bike. and it took me a few months to repack it but my hubs is still going strong. im using the trusted cup and bearing hubs of shimano.

if it's going to be bb deep, i'm carrying my bike. i'd rather pedal on shallow flood than repack bearings. not to mention a potential ruined chain. the worst is not seeing where you're going which could be somewhere really deep.

I've established that I won't go through BB-high flood level (i'm using a 26er). I guess I could go through ankle-high flood but not knee high. Did anybody experienced water getting stuck inside your rims?

Grabe lalo na kapag tubig baha. Napakabaho kapag inalis mo tire.

Hahahahaha!
BTT:
Do some types of BBs and Hubs resist water penetration better than others? I've read that the Shimano "non-series" hubs are bad at water protection.

nope, even if you resist the water through the bb itself, papasok yan sa butas ng frame and kung umuulan, via seat post.

Have used SRAM gxp bb (X1's) and hope pro 2 hubs on both flooded streets and river crossings.
No problems at all with the hubs (re-greased once a year).
Not so lucky with the bb though, which had to be replaced at 18 months. Truth is, the bb can still work but will need to have the bearings replaced.
Bushings and bearings on the linkages/pivots needed to be re-greased but were otherwise fine.

Bushings and bearings on the linkages/pivots needed to be re-greased but were otherwise fine. hope pro2 evo are worth the money spent. i've made river crossing with it in wawa, not so good mud rides on the trail and have ridden in rain for hours. all the maintenance aside from cleaning annual cleanup and regrease of the ratchet mechanism. bearings are still ok after 3-4 years of use. so far, the only thing that i may need to replace soon are the o-rings for the adapters as they've expanded already. only gripe i had with these is that i purchased a 36h which nowadays is a dinosaur. can't do much about th 24 POE as that's what's available then, but yes, i find it limiting. ht bb's don't really last long for my use. after a year or so, it's already clicking the cup and cone design of shimano hubs are good if and only if maintained well (clean and regreased). this needs more TLC than cartridge bearings, but will definitely serve you well. what's good about this is like what i said earlier, parts are easy to get, cup, cone, ball bearings. as for the grease, i don't really use bike specific grease (unless i'm working on hydraulics like fork or droppers) - it's marketing BS. i just use the high temp bearing grease bought from auto supplies (comes in either red or blue and not easy to remove, trust me). the cheap white grease is a waste and shouldn't even be sold anywhere.
