HELP!!! From my busted camera, now back to Biking If you had a choice what would be best frame for an XC FullSus (for trail use only) , Merida or Giant (I know a lot of Anthem users are here). All I know is the Merida is cheaper than the Anthem by thousands of pesos. I am comparing the Merida 2000 V and the Giant Anthem S (both 2007 models). Appreciate your comments on this MTB gurus...am concerned with the bob, endurance/durability and re-sale value. (hehehe). This is my mid yr project to christmas project ;D ;D ;D (long term) Thanks Merida Giant Anthem S

In Maarat, there's a 98% chance you'll see an Anthem around. As for the Trans Mission, not too many would experiment on it. This must be a sign. Subok ang Anthem. You may pay more, but it's money well spent. The Anthem is also lighter.

According to the distributor, the biggest Bike manufacturer in Taiwan is Giant and second is Merida. It was Giant who first went into marketing its own brand after their principals in the US went bankrupt. Merida soon followed. As far as technology, giant is well known for it's expertise in the field of alum forming (hydroforming) and carbon fiber manufacturing. Merida's initial expertise was scandium manufacturing and eventually went into carbon fiber. Technology wise, Merida's technology is closer to Europe while Giant is US-based. Personally, I find the design of Giant to be sleeker and sexier. The Merida looks huge especially in its front triangle. Like what Bruce said, the Maestro suspension is already tried and tested while the LRS link of the Merida is new (however, it is a reverse-engineered version of the epic). The thing going for the Merida is the traditional front triangle that allows for 2 water bottles. But then, SEXY talaga yung Anthem! I don't know if I helped or just added to the confusion

The merida frame looks sweet enough. How much cheaper is it than the anthem? What are their approximate retail prices?

Why dont you try the Merida ? That World champion motif must have some backing . The money you save could be put to better wheels or a better fork .

I admit, Anthem is much much more famous than the Mission. In the trails I see mostly Anthems than Meridas...BTW, has anyone here tried the Mission?

I remember when i saw that Merida model, it reminded me of the Specialized Epic S-works. almost the same linkage and shock mounting. check the Spez site for the advantages. Thing is when that rear shock goes bust....replacement may not be readily available

Now Playing * 3 Doors Down - Away from the Sun2 years coming off from my NRS, I almost always make a curse* when riding it (just me alone). Brake-jack & stuff. I have been so dumbfounded the longest time in my life looking for the best bike for me. I always look at weight - but won't compromise on function or reliability. Besides, a few pounds won't kill me! From doing my homework, I've strived to find the happy median between light weight, performance, and comfort . If you're like me, I'd rather add one more arrow to the quiver. Anthem - 3nthMerida - 0So, click on the links (in red), 'flip' through the scripts and tell me what it says: Post # 7 by derby this was actually the last paragraph of derby's post (#7) Post # 2 by derby Some more from Downunder, mate! Just in case, you need a local review... I already shared my bit of experience hereOtherwise, skip through the whole story then tell me how it ends? HTH. Thanks! TGIF! Be safe, everyone! Happy weekend! * curse - just being a bit rhetorical there.

OnieThanks for the links. Will read em as soon as I get back from the ride Merida = still zero. Thanks mucho Glad to be of help. But it's best if you could have your friends, close aQuaintances or not so close to lend you their bikes (only if they'd have both of the bikes you're aspiring to buy). As if to demo 'em. It would really help you get somewhere else. Like me, I was granted the opportunity to 'test pilot' Sir Arnold's rig last June during our DRT-Bulacan ride then after that everything's was history. Gave myself a gift last Father's day! ;D ||*chuckles in delight|| Thank you as well... Be safe. Ride insp¹®ed!

Hey Yukon, I've never ridden the Merida so I can't comment on it, but for sure, you CAN'T go wrong with the Anthem. It may cost more, but you know it's backed by a warranty (if you get it from an authorized dealer), and users (more like fanboys) swear by it - me included. Join the club and ask Onie to make you a jersey

I guess I'll start by having an Anthem Jersey first before the rig comes in. I saw Pete's Anthem few hours ago and I say it's very very NICE. I think I likey...
oh BTW, jcatienza, saw him earlier with his Merida (not Mission though) says he misses his Anthem na (for Sale)
