I've been using it for almost a year now and it never failed me.
Pros.
Easy to install/setup with avid CPS.
Easy to adjust, no tools needed. just turn that red knob.
Reasonably priced.
It works.
Cons.
Haven't used other BD yet. I'm still dreaming for a hydro.

aside from being easy to adjust(cps, pad, spring tension, the calipers are lighter than other mechs and the pads give excellent stopping power and modulates almost as good as hydros. paired with avid fr8 levers or the lighter SLs, you get more adjustability and smoother lever feel. best for the buck mech if you ask me.

naka BB7 pala ako all these time dehins ko alam the red knob is a GEM. i wouldn't buy mech DBs without them anymore. cons? hmm. it's been perfect ever since! albeit loft-sided this thread is. any non-BB7 users? haha BB7 vs the world but it still can't match the stopping power of my LX hydros

Thanks guys! i heared so much good outputs from you, ive been using shimano mech. brake forgot the model and i notice that every time i descend my fingers suffer to much stress on pressing the brakes and now thinking to buy bb7 instead of hydro which cost a lot. Now im convince to buy the bb7 next month.
thanks!! ciao!

just thinking... ...is changing from a shimano mech db to an avid mech db really an upgrade? ...or just a simple replacement? just thinking out loud...

BB7 s are tops for mech disc brakes
But if your issue is hand pains due to constant pressure...BB7s can help as far as stopping power is concerned since its brake pad surface area is bigger than standard shimanos'
BUT I would recommend hydro DBs ...iba talaga...modulation and ease of use (single digit/finger ok na)

I've used avid mechs for at least 2 yrs now and they are quite reliable. The only thing that I don't like about it are the stock pads that came with it. They squeal like hell when they get wet. The fix for this is to use semi-metallic/sintered pads.

Have to upgrade for the all mountain specs this time. ;D ;D

Braking power is fine but the squealing can be annoying as they do get quite loud at times, especially if you brake hard. It also takes quite a while (3 to 4 rides even more) before it starts to quiet down. I did not try sanding the pads down and clean the rotors but that can be a bit of a hassle to do everytime the brakes get wet.

Got 3 pairs of Avid 8 inchers on my Bikes Been a user for 3 yrs now. Highly Recommended Other than the Red Knob sometimes natatangal and Mahal nga lang Orig Pads ( 900 /Pair ) It is really Good compared to my 1st DB which was a Deore. The Spring on the Calipers ( I Think ) makes the Modulation of the Avids easier Compared to Shimanos'

yep you can... actually thats the original design of rotors for mech brakes (till that wavy & polygon came along), as long as they share the same brake pads, you dont have problem with the rotors.

bb7 is the highest level of mechanical diskbrakes there is. in fact, its one of the best products that SRAM has to offer even up to its hydraulic product lines. its the only product line shimano isnt able to beat SRAM, the braking department.

@warlock Thanks for the info. Any idea where can I buy 'em? Any decently stocked bike shops carry them, like MontG said... its the current benchmark for mech brakes in the market right now, and its been on shelf for long time now.

@warlock Thanks for the info. Any idea where can I buy 'em? buy what? the whole disc brake(bb7) assembly or the clean sweep rotors? anyhow, you can get them at ross cycle in cartimar(bb7 and clean sweep rotors). i saw a couple of bb7's there(not sure though if its packaged with a clean sweep rotors)
