Brothers in Bike... Any reviews or experience in using KHS XC104? I'm thinking of this full sus frame and replacing the stack rear shock (which is coil) with a rockshox sid. A friend of mine did this already and considering its only 17k. Any inputs on this, specifics on weight, performance on trails??? Advance thanks...

You can't go wrong with horst link hehehehe The SID rear shock has bad reviews. Read some at mtbr.com.

the sid isn't that bad...you just have to check the pressure everytime your ride (especially the negative air chamber)

Nhan,
This is not a real 4-bar suspension since the it does not have a horst link. If you check, the linkage is connected to the seatstay and not the chainstay as true 4-bar is. In effect, this would jack-up very badly when you brake. I've read the review in Mountain Bike Action, they call this FAUX BAR...
The SID is ok it's just that it leaks with age. The good thing is that you can actually buy the repair kit. It's available from Extreme. Replaced mine a couple of months ago and it's holding air pretty well. Just clean it occasionally, it's easy to disassemble.
Why not buy a second hand NRS? It's a proven design and I think the 2nd hand market is selling them cheaper now (below 20K in the area of 15-18K with the existing NRS or SID shock). Get the Giant NRS shock since it seems to be more durable than the SID.

Yep... can't go wrong with the horst link! bwhahahaha Hey Raul, if you'd have to check the SID's pressure everytime you ride, wouldn't that be a hassle?

Thanks to all that replied and enlighten me on this frame, since it has a bad review after all and based on your observations and expertise, then i'll stick to my original options (NRS or Anthem).... hope i can find a second hand nrs, if i don't then i'll go the anthem way... Thanks so much, great help indeed..

Hello Sir Nhan!
For the price of less than 14K, which I paid for the frame (without shocks) , I am not complaining, though I am not in a capacity to give a review.
It was reviewed in the July 2006 issue of MBA.
I think Bee can get you an NRS frame for 15K since I saw him post one in the shoutbox before.

i used to ride a khs 104 with a cheap rear shock... since then i've moved onto a jamis dakar xc pro with a fox float rl shock... my wife now uses the khs... i've tried riding both bikes on the same terrain back-to-back... i can't tell the diff... then again, i started riding bikes just a few months ago...

The 2007 KHS XC frames now sport the Horst link.
