Where did you read that , gabe brad?
I think material techno dev has allowed helmets to last way longer than that...barring cracks from endos and hits of cors:)
Yeah...I stick to name brand helmets. I pay for the R&D ..and the pimpass brandname!

brother alphabolt, 5 years ago (tagal n nun ah) i bought a bell helmet and just underneath the care instruction, there was this note that said "replace helmet after two years regardless, no visible crack or tear from..... " something like that. im not kidding, brad. if these so called expiration was bogus, then im gonna enjoy my 661 helmet for years to come. you saw my helmet dba? hehehe

sir arnel, its actually true that on the manual of the helmets(bell, giro etc.)they indicate that the lifespan of the helmet is for 2 years, after that, they recommend that it be replaced(personally,i think it's just a marketing strategy).but for us pinoy's,pag pwede pa....tuloy lang!!

MOB xc helmet w/ visor = for long rides or trail rides coz (1) mura (2) marami butas for ventilation (3) the visor helps pag malakas ang ulan or super maaraw. unfortunately naiwan ko yun sa coron coupla months ago...hehehe...been with me since 2002 together w/ my bike 661 Dirt Lid = i use this whenever i'm lending the MOB to a friend i invited to ride...hehehe...got it free from my friend who bought the 15k coyote DH bike ;D mainit but since i got it for free, it somehow feels lighter....hehehe 661 Mullet = my urban assault (everyday use) helmet...when i'm bike commuting to and from school

We don't have much crash experience here... I had only used 4 helmets specialized (dont knw model) & chamonix, bell, Giro E2.
I hit a gallant with my bell on, it didn't break, but the car was dented. I love that helmet... but I have to retire it cause it was originally white, but after 10 years, it gradually discollored into rust.
The only buying factor now is if it fits & it looks good.

hmm... tnx tofi! just too lazy to search. ehhehe anyway, i'm thinking of Bell Sweep R, Bell Ghisalo, Giro Atmos, Giro Monza and LG Titan Carbon to match my upcoming road bike... reviews? which one is cheaper? In one of the most comprehensive test done by independent product testers, Bell Sweep R came out winner, second is Met, and giro I think was 6th. The test consist of the usual crashing, locking system, weight, and the the heat factor. Heat test consist of putting the helmet while the rider is on the trainer with matching fan to simulate the speed or cooling factor while being tested with a thermal/heat measuring thing. 15 is the normal heat stationary. Bell was 15.4 Met was 16. The others where all 17 above. I dont know what kind of measuring system or unit they used but you know those Germans. In fact, after they release the results, the availability of the SweepXC/ R, in Europe and in some internet shops in US became harder due to selling out. This was 8 months ago. you can take out the visor of the Sweep XC, instant roadie helmet.

Dunno if this is OT, what is the use of the visor in MTB helmets? Been itching to ask for a long time was a roadie 100 lbs ago and was never a fan of visors. I tried using the stock visors on two instances and I keep on hearing the whirring sound on descents...wind drag? Also restricts my vision. Please enlighten if there is a value added to using visors. hmm... tnx tofi! just too lazy to search. ehhehe anyway, i'm thinking of Bell Sweep R, Bell Ghisalo, Giro Atmos, Giro Monza and LG Titan Carbon to match my upcoming road bike... reviews? which one is cheaper? OT din In case you're interested with the Bell Sweep R, give me a holler...I've one that was fitted but never used, '07 model in Red with white trim (large)...still in box and shrink wrapped for storage.

JC, Visor also protects upper parts of our face from the sun, also from branches we encounter in the trail, and forgot pala, our eyes form the sun too. Bell's visor is quite stable and less noisy compared to others. But I think the real reason is Pogi points.

enzo, Hehehe, pogi points! I knew it!!! Now, if I only I can find a visor for my helmet. By the way, Re: the german tests, was Catlike rated also? My sister gifted me with one late last year but the colors doesnt match my bike, hence I'm a bit iffy using it (beki color and I don't like calling attention to my 200+lbs self huffing n puffing). Sub 300gms. Ventilation's great. Too great, in fact, that I keep on hearing noise which isn't good for racers (not me).
