I got a Trek, forgot the model. It cost around 2.2k. Seems ok after a few months. But the plastic thingie connecting the straps to the helmet seem a bit small and frail. Before that I had a cheap MOB helmet. Mukhang mas matibay pa yon, pero heavy and does'nt fit so well.

used a Giro Havoc for quite a while...saved my life...fits well but makes my round face look even rounder hehehe
now using a Specialized M2, great adjustability, fit and ventilation...also makes my head look less round ;D

Ei sycip, I think that piece of styrofoam can save your life, imagine goin DH at 50-65 kph and crashing onto a big 'ol narra....Oooouuuuccchhhh..... Right now Ive got this POS dirt jump helmet but Im planning to upgrade to a bell full face one. But I suggest you invest on a good helmet, might save your life someday. Happy MTBiking!!! ;D

Well it's like this eh:
I ride XC. XC helmets do not give you better protection as the price goes up. What improves are the number of vents, the strap fitting system, the look, etc. etc. So a $120.00 XC helmet may stay on better, but it does not protect your head any better than a $20 one. In fact, since the number of vents usually go up with price, you end up with less styrofoam to protect your head.
I would rather spend the money on better padded gloves.

I agree with sycip rider since all mtb helmets sold in the usa all passed a certain safety standard the only difference with these helmets between one another are the number of vents and adjustability.

Beware of those cheap plastic helmets (mob comes to mind ) They dont absorb collisions well and transfer the impact to the users head A buddy had a nasty crash, bukol bukol head niya All impacts from the mob

I thought Giro deep-sixed this one already...but still i really want to have one hehe got it like 2-3 years ago.was pegged at a whopping $130 at that time.giro doesnt make one anymore.seems that its already a collectors item according to mtb afficionados in the us.tried searching online, found some being sold at ebay but they are used ones.if youre still planning to get one i recommend met parachute instead.might be a bit more expensive but much better. www.met-helmets.com/

bros, I'm planning to replace my helmet- (bigay lang kasi sa akin yun) and I don't know if it is still safe, I bet it's around 5 years (or more) already. but my budget is only around 1.5k. I was searching for bell helmets and i went to all terra last tues. Boy! they have really slick helmets... but the price is too high for me.. I saw a michelin helmet at storeshop in robinsons- the price is around 1.6k i think the style is good. But i really like the Urban MX, but I forgto the price. I think I don't really need those large vents- a few ones maybe enough. So far I have checked only 3 places- storeshop, all terra, and an LBS here in front of our office ( they have those cheap MOB helmets- around 800 i think). I think the style and vents of MOB is just OK- but I don't want to scrimp on safety ( if you may call that) . Based on what I hear from you guys: I should rather stay away from those MOBs. So any suggestions where I can buy a "decent" helmet? I would be using it for road and trails usually. Never mind the graphics and style (BTW I live in Pasig) Thanks in advance! ;D

I suppose we can never overstate the advantages of wearing noggin bins. Yesterday, on a fast fireroad descent I square-edged a rock buried beneath a thick mat of pine needles. The front tire blew, the steering did its best impression of the twist. The bike slid under me, giving me a totally smashing introduction to Terra Firma. My Giro Gila cracked at the point of impact. On the whole, my noggin is fine.

I used to own an Atto helmet, a hardened styrofoam. After 2 crashes but no damage to my noggin or the helmet I retired it. Then I bought a Prowell.
Now I'm using Giro Switchblade for 2 years, too bad it's discontinued. I'm planning to get the Met Parachute as well, I love the versatility of being able to take off the full face and removing the face guard when i want, he he he ;D
