I have the avatar, which is the slightly cheaper version (Same design and cover, but with CroMo rails instead of Ti).
Specialized saddles are available at Dan's Bike Shop. Got mine for around 3400 ? (cant remember exactly how much) in early 05. Yep, they have that sitbone measurement thingy, which I used to get my size.
At first, it was quite hard on my behind. But eventually, as it broke in (or my butt broke in), its gotten to be comfy. Not as much numbness on long grind outs compared to my previous saddle ( a cheap stocker Velo). The stocker was softer and more padded yes, but I felt the need to shift my weight and relieve pressure points after some time sitting down. I think it works. But, for the price, I should have gotten the earlier '04 "Rival" model which was on sale. The rival is basically the same but lighter with Ti rails.

I just got Specialized's 2006 MTB-Specific Rival 143 SL (available also in 130SL) from Dan's Bike shop. It has hollow Ti rails, the usual BG center groove but overall, the saddle has much simple lines compared to Alias or the earlier Rival models. It has some resemblance of the WTB Laser V saddles. For its lightweight, fit and comfort...the best saddle I ever had. Happy Shopping ;D

I have the 155 alias saddle. it works great! I mistakenly bought the 155 though because i was at the borderline between 143 and the 155 mm width upon having been tested w/ that foam contraption. It's relatively light because of the titanium railings. I'll probably change it w/ the Rival sl 143 mm though because the new Rival sl's now come w/ the Titanium railings. I think you should consider the rival sl's instead. Available at Dan's bike shop around 5.5K.

thank you so much for the feedback and suggestions =) i did check out dan's bike shop. they only have the rival in my size (143mm). alias and avatar gel were out of stock. i'd like to check out the other two first, but from the way they're priced, seems like i might go for the rival. =)
guys at dan's were very nice and accomodating. answered all my queries and even mounted a rival on one of the bikes so i can try sitting on it. thanks dennis and joel! =)
cobym: would you know if the avatar has a narrower neck compared to the rival? i ride on the road a lot, and I was told that the alias and avatar are more mountain/road application, whereas the rival is mountain specific, therefore they (alias and avatar) have narrower necks to allow for more comfortable seated pedaling especially when crouched. if they're all the same or only slightly different, then I guess i'll go for the rival =)
thanks again =)

Hmmm. I didnt notice it when I was looking at them. I suppose their nose/neck areas are very similar, but then I wasnt really looking at that aspect. But judging by the pictures above, the rival does seem somewhat wider at the neck.

thanks again for your input, cobym =) i was pretty set on getting the avatar, but unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any stock left in the shops. called pretty much all the shops in the metro that were listed on the other thread, no luck though. hehehe, i'm trying to decide if i can wait for DBS to get their new stocks or just go for the rival. anyway, i really appreciate your replies. safe riding, brothers =)

good choice. just make sure to get the Rival SL and not just the Rival. The difference is the railing of th SL is hollow titanium. It si 120 gms lighter that the regular Rival.
