Planning to buy a FS frame for freeride/downhill setup but still at a lost what to choose. I am a 5'7" 180 pounder and would love to hear some suggestions (and why) from you guys before making my choice on the said subject. Tnx.

if you're not on a budget why don't you go for Bullit. Since ur a 5'7 guy, u should pick the size of the frame that will fit ur height. "medium" is the standard size of the frame for tall guy like u. anyway, i think norco 4x4 is not DH/FR , it's 4x.

yup pjhays right,if you want a freeride /downhill bike, cut your choices down to the h3 and the bullit..there pretty much alike...as alot of us know, bullits are strong as hell and can take anything you thrown at it,and the shawn is pretty strong in its own right...the only thing to consider now is your budget,if your planning/willing to blow lots of money go for the bullit, but if you still planning to blow lots of money but not as much as the bullit go for the shawn...both bike are great bikes, race proven, etc etc...so either way your pretty safe..good luck on that!!

Question sir's, why is Norco 4x4 classified under freeride fs (mtbr review) if you were sayin its only for 4x? I read some reviews also that its a versatile frame good for dh/fr. Any idea's???

its a good freeride bike, but it doesnt have that much travel as the bullit's and other freeride bikes out there, its good because its a norco ans norco's are know to take everything...

Ok so norco 4x4 can be for freeride also. Based on information Ived gathered, Norco built this bike specifically intended for 4x use. But it exceeded their expectations coz it handled freeride and downhills amazingly well. Thats why they rename it to 4by and then released the 06 for fr/dh use. It has a horst link suspension, imo the best design for a fs frame. Loves drops, jumps, hucks. Also bombproof. The con/s: Its pretty darn heavy. Not recommended for xc enduro.
SC bullit - is a bombproof frame that can handle the toughest drops, jumps, hucks, that you can throw at and yet it will not fail you. It is light and very sexy. You can whip a big air with it for its lightness. An all around bike since you can set it up for anything you want: freeride, downhill, dj,even xc. It has a long travel but its a single pivot fs. A lot of bobbing when you pedal this bike on a flat surface. The worst design there is in a fs market. Heard that its phasedout and SC will be bringing in a new design for 2007.
SHawn H3 -- looks like a SC bullit on a budget. Lots of european dig this bike. a bullit clone and performs like a bullit as well. But with a better suspension design. Not a lot of bobbing compare to a bullit. For a budget fs this is a knockout.
Hope this helps in your decision. keep on bikin. \m/

Bullit with 5th Element or DHX will not bob under pedaling once you set the shock properly. It's the least or almost maintenance free all around bike compare to VPP, ICT, FSR or any other suspension design out there. Bullit still holds the title of a true all around bike that you can setup from a light XC/trailbike up to a FR/DH bike... Yes, it's a single pivot that is not fully active under braking, but nobody else out there riding the bike always braking ;D...hehehe... Sorry guys, I'm a little biased here...I still have and still loving the last Bullit sold on our LBS

I totally disagree with the statement that the single pivot, such as the bullit, is the worst fs design in the market.
The bullit's success speaks for itself, as does the heckler's, the Prophet's and Jekyll's, the Joker's and the Distance's, San Andreas', the Fury's, and .... the list of great single pivot bikes goes on. a bullit (or heckler) doesnt bob excessively when the shock is properly set up. Besides, a freeride bike is not really designed for "zero bob" but for being plush and bomber.

yup, defenitely bullit is a good buy. it rides well, has a good resale value and light but tough enough for hucking.
but if you are really on a budget get the shawn h3, it's the cheaper version of the bullit and d@mn tough as well. hehehe

i also disagree with Bullit being the worst FS design..it would not be a 3 time FR frame of the year by MTBA and several reviews.. with technology nowadays the bullit also virtually DOES NOT BOB! with the help of the ever trusted FOX DHX 5.0
