I remember trek used to have one carbon with soft tail. It give I think 1 -2 inches of travel. But the it was discountinued due to luck of buyers.
Fullspeed..I rather buy a hardtail or a 3.5 inches of rear travel XC bike.

in the most easiest of terms, they were the first designs of rear suspensions on bikes...
I could remember then that "rear suspension" meant elastomers, instead of the shock on the bike above.....heck, even forks were elastomers beore with super plush 1.5" suspension, and super travel 3" for downhill.....
those were the days....

hmmm... is it a long travel hardtail or a short travel full suss? I think soft tails were viable options several years back when f/s bikes were not very efficient and you wanted to take the edge off of the trail. Now with stable platform shocks the soft tail has become obsolete. A hardtail with large volume tires will soften the trail a bit without the complexity and added weight of a soft tail.
Or maybe I should ride a soft tail before criticizing them.

IMO, soft-tails are for the hardtail person who's looking for a little comfort on the rear-end. Full suspension doesn't make them obsolete. YBB has been around for over 15 years and still has a strong following. It's biggest selling point is it's simplicity. No pivots to maintain, and no rear shock to pump up or oil.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'm gonna look for a test ride before I decide bxc - I have my eyes on a KHS Team Softrail that I saw in Cartimar (alloy front, cromo rear triangle) And yes, it's the simplicity that attracted me to it ... Plus the reviews in mtbr (5 chilis!)

Yes..softail doesn't have pivot. I rather use hardtail with tubeless tires this will compensate the 1.5 rear travel .

am not sure why soft tails are not that popular...sre looks very exclusive but i dont see any significant advantage of this system over a hardtail...and it bobs a lot..i saw a guy once aboard one at tour of fireflies...he kinda like to spin fast...and he was bobing at every pedal stroke...looked like he was riding a pogo stick..that on a super kinis road. a hardtail with a cheap 1 inch travel suspension seatpost i guess i a better alternative...post again tomorrow if you dont get a good sleep tonight. hehehe!
