shock is obviously good, as you can find it installed in several hi end bikes..such as SANTA CRUZ, ORANGE, MOUNATIN CYCLE, IRON HORSE, YETI, etc.. it was the standard for pedal platform damping but since the birth of the FOX DHX this shock has been slowly going down due to the durability and being lightweight of the DHX.. The 5th damps very smoothly, like butter..and has great anti bob capabilities..though it has been known to blow out more often than the Fox' ;D but other than that its a very good shock if you are considering it as an upgrade..

Already heard about 5 instances wherein the shock bursting/exploding/leaking. Although all were the first versions of the shocks and were OEMs on quality bikes (hecklers, intense uzzi... I don't know the other frames) and were used for different applications.
Ask Boyet at Powerbikes how many 5th element shocks they already fixed or were returned under warranty.
But although I also heard that the problem have been addressed by the newer models.
Better check MTBR.com and other review boards for a better idea....although always treat them with a grain of salt. Most are true but some are "paninira" lang.
As a side comment..... I was not properly set-up "daw" which is the reason for it's "failure"....but "durable" is "durable" no matter what. Hate it when your suspension fail you at the trails. Already rode home with my rear SID busted. Naawa ako sa frame ko.
As another side comment..... I am not ranting nor raving about this shock. I just want to tell you what I know. But I would love to have to shock on my single pivot long travel frame (which uses a RShox Deluxe BTW).

I have it on my intense 5.5 for a year now and seems no problem so far. They have problem a year ago as Hingal aso mentioned but seems like they resolve the issue. Its a good shock base on my review.. it will absoved any terrain and on climb you dont fell the deeps and holes being hit. Not like some shocks you really fell the bumps when you're climbing.

Got my frame with this shock installed, after wading through the reviews in the net, I decided to replace it with a Fox RP3. I still have my 5th as a back up shock (still unused) if ever the rp3 craps up. But so far so good... after 8 months of riding, its still riding fine.

statement about the "old versions" being less durable than the new ones are true.. ..talked with Progressive Suspension mech and he said upgrades and internal improvements have been made towards the newer ones.. ;D so I have yet to see how durable the 05' models actualy are..
